Sleek & Unique: Crafty Sailboat-Shaped Kitchen Built-Ins

When is a kitchen island not an island? When it is a sailboat! No? Not funny? OK, then we will skip the one about it being ‘shipshape’ too, and perhaps the one about its ‘streamlined’ shape as well.

This series of designs from Alno embodies nautical sources of inspiration, seen most clearly in the island but also present in the supplementary cabinet sets that smoothly arc out from the walls and glide back into them.

The centerpiece island serves as a flagship, if you will, anchoring the design, while its curve encourage cooking and interacting activity around its edges, and participation in the middle – all hands on deck!

Wild Industrial Vases Add Some Modern Flair to Your Table

Concrete and wire are perhaps two of the least likely materials for making flower vases. But thanks to Thai designer Decha Archjananun, they have come together in this lovely form.

They’re called Weight Vases, and they bring together two industrial materials for a surprisingly elegant result.

The vase bases are made of concrete, which holds the water and keeps the whole assembly upright.

Wire frames of differing shapes and heights support stems in whatever configuration you choose, creating a graceful juxtaposition between lovely flowers, rough concrete and sparse wire.
