Epic Metal Remix Tells The History Of Video Games

Metal Video Games Video Image

Watch as this performer takes you for a heavy metal ride through the history of video games.

I was an ace History student back in my high school days, but I know fully well how boring learning about old stuff can be for others. Stuff that's already happened, sadly, just doesn't have the strong razzel-dazzel that the unknowing future has built into its PR.

That's why you to turn the power of rock – mighty force of the cosmos – to lend the ears of the Internet masses to your message, or in this case, a radical history lesson about the 40-plus years of video games. Yes, YouTube user FamilyJules7X conducted this fantastic 17-minute heavy metal performance that take viewers through an audio journey through the vast gaming landscape – where it started, and where it has been between then and now.

FamilyJules7X's video features the metal-mixed versions of memorable video game tunes, like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Fallout 3. Impressively, all recorded by himself. Drums, guitar, and even the bass parts. FamilyJules7X poured his soul into each instrument, a creative process that took him eight days to accomplish – in the last week of his college finals no less.

Now that's dedication… or a risky decision depending on his finals outcome. Either way, this video is flat-out amazing and should be given a listen to. You can even download an MP3 track of it, too. The link should appear right below in the About section of the YouTube page.

Hullabalu fuses apps, art, and clever story-telling for iPad

Getting age-appropriate material for children who are into technology can be challenging, and if you’re not really into your kid playing Flappy Bird all day, here comes Hullabalu, an absolute life saver.

It’s amazing how when we grew up, we played our home video game consoles, but now kids are all about their parents tablets and phones. Finding content that is not mindless, but engaging, and that sparks their imagination can be challenging, and there’s a void in the app market which Hullabalu is ready to fill.

Hullabalu was created by a New York based team, and provides an entirely new experience when it comes to storytelling for children. The app itself is more than just an interactive story book, and instead provides an engaging fantasy world where children and users make the story progress by engaging in different activities. The mastermind behind the project, Suzanne Xie, claims this is all a tribute to the things she and her team enjoyed as kids, and hopes to recreate the sense of wonder for a new generation.

Hullabalu is (as of now) an iPad exclusive which costs $3,99 USD, and introduces children to Pan, an adorable purple panda bear who will guide the users through the experience along with his gang of friends. The app is remarkably good looking, especially when you consider this is a start-up project, and the entire team consists of no more than 6 people whose synergy has created something truly special. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill “educational” app following some kind of curricular cycle but an engrossing story with activities along the way meant to engage and stimulate the youngest users.

Here’s their latest trailer to illustrate what we’re saying.

Users interested in the app may want to check it out at the Apple Store and learn more about it.

Mind Controlled Plane Built by German Researchers

Mind Controlled Plane

What could possibly be the next development in aviation, a team of German researchers have built a mind controlled plane.

You're sat in the waiting area and your patience is being exercised tremendously as you sit watching the announcement board at the airport to find out when you can board your plane. You'll be going on holiday! Maybe to Aruba or Fiji or maybe just to the other side of the country and you're excited to don your best Hawaiian shirt and your nicest pair of flip flops. But that wait for the perfect holiday is going to take even longer because a giant, bold 'DELAYED' sticker has just come up next to your flight's details on the board. You won't be getting your destination any time soon, but what if you could get there yourself with no flight experience; what if you could fly yourself there by using the power of your mind?

Granted that's an outlandish possibility but it is an actual reality as researchers from the Technische Universität München and the TU Berlin have created a special plane that allows even novice pilots to fly the plane with their mind. As shown in simulator tests, the mind controlled flight project works as it interprets brain waves from the person piloting the plane and it also works, as shown in the video above, with no manual interaction with the plane whatsoever.

For now, the project is only in the testing stages but the researchers had this to say,

"The scientists have logged their first breakthrough: They succeeded in demonstrating that brain-controlled flight is indeed possible – with amazing precision. Seven subjects took part in the flight simulator tests. They had varying levels of flight experience, including one person without any practical cockpit experience whatsoever. The accuracy with which the test subjects stayed on course by merely thinking commands would have sufficed, in part, to fulfill the requirements of a flying license test. "One of the subjects was able to follow eight out of ten target headings with a deviation of only 10 degrees," reports Fricke. Several of the subjects also managed the landing approach under poor visibility. One test pilot even landed within only few meters of the centerline."

We'll keep you posted once we know more.
