AT&T to Take Pre-Orders for Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge Starting Feb 23

Samsung Galaxy S7

Samsung Galaxy S7 and its curvier sibling, two of the main stars of this year’s Mobile World Congress, will be available for pre-order on AT&T, starting on February 23.

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have finally been officially announced by Samsung, even though the online world has been getting a taste of them thanks to leaked images for a few weeks, now. AT&T customers have even more reasons to wait for these two flagships, as they come with built-in DIRECTV functionality. Joining them will be the Gear S2 classic smartwatch that sports NumberSync, a feature that syncs your wearable to your smartphone’s mobile number, so that you can send and receive texts, or even place and answer calls, without getting the phone out of your pocket.

“The DIRECTV integration on the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and Gear S2 classic is the latest example of how AT&T is making your video experience even better. Our customers are getting a unique mobile video experience in the palm of their hand and on their wrist that they can’t find anywhere else,” explained Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Device Marketing and Developer Services, AT&T Mobility.

But what is DIRECTV, more precisely? Assuming that you have a data plan and that you are subscribed to this service, you can stream live TV, as well as your favorite movies, straight to your smartphone, using the DIRECTV app. More over, if you’re watching TV at home using AT&T’s video streaming service, you can use either of the Galaxy S7 smartphones as a remote control, thanks to the Quick Remote feature. As though this wasn’t enough, you can use Samsung’s S-Voice feature to launch the service by speaking into the S7, S7 Edge, or Gear S2 classic.

The Galaxy S7 takes everything that was good about its predecessor and amps it up. Its 5.1″ QuadHD Super AMOLED display is encased in an extremely elegant glass and metal body. The S7 edge, on the other hand, features a 5.5″ curved display that provides a bit more room for apps.

Both phones feature a 12 MP dual-pixel rear-facing camera that performs particularly well in poor-light conditions. To store the photos and videos shot with this camera, users have 32GB of internal storage at their disposal, minus whatever amount that’s taken by the operating system. That can be furthermore complemented with up to 200GB of additional storage in the form of a microSD card.

In terms of battery, the S7 sports a 3,000mAh battery, while the S7 edge packs a 3,600mAh one. Considering the larger display, the additional capacity makes sense entirely. Regardless of which model you’re going to pick, wireless charging comes as a default feature, but you’ll have to buy the pads separately. Yet another great selling point is that the S7 and S7 edge are waterproof.

These three products will hit retail stores on March 11, but AT&T customers can place pre-orders for them starting on February 23. They can do so both online, on AT&T’s website, and in the mobile carrier’s brick-and-mortar stores.
