Over the Top Drama: Spiral Staircase in London Home Posted: 21 Nov 2013 08:00 AM PST This breathtaking spiral staircase is a bespoke piece commissioned from Elite Metalcraft for a home in London. The dramatic staircase perfectly offsets the simple white walls and complements the dramatic stained glass windows set into the wall. The utter grandeur of the staircase is balanced by its rather minimalist surroundings. Aside from the marvelous stained glass windows, the only adornments to the walls around the staircase are a few strategically-placed light fixtures. It is easy to see the careful labor that went into the manufacture of this unique staircase. The balustrade, running from the first to second floor, is made of laser cut steel and treated with a patination process to make it appear as though it had existed in the home for many, many years. There are few home additions that are as dramatic and visually striking as a well-constructed spiral staircase. Elite Metalcraft struck the perfect balance between minimalism and drama, making this London home a truly unique masterpiece. |
Flip it Out: Wicked Cutlery Designed Like a Butterfly Knife Posted: 20 Nov 2013 08:00 PM PST Carrying around your own silverware can lead to you being branded a weirdo, but not when your silverware is as cool as this set. The Butterfly Knife Cutlery from ThinkGeek is a fork and spoon set that’s designed to look like the classic (and dangerous) butterfly knife. With a quick flip-open design and a clasp to hold the pieces open or closed, the utensils are handy as well as incredibly good looking. Like the butterfly knife, the butterfly utensils can be used to do some pretty cool tricks. The coolest trick of all, though, is getting to eat your meals like a boss. The stainless steel tools each have a bottle opener included in their design, making them efficient as well as awesome. Made from nearly half a pound of metal each, these bad boys could do some serious damage if you ever made the mistake of bringing a spoon to a knife fight. |
Couples (Color) Therapy: Double Bathtub, Dual Relaxation Posted: 20 Nov 2013 02:00 PM PST Couples who love the intimacy of bathing together but who enjoy water of different temperatures can enjoy both in the Couple Yin Yang Bath from Trautwein. The tub takes on the traditional yin yang shape, a sign of duality and completeness. The tub is a unique way for couples to spend relaxing time together. It features bubble jets, underwater speakers, and colored underwater lights to enhance the relaxation factor. The thin ledge between the two tubs allows each side to adjust its own settings independently, perfecting the experience for each bather. The tub is akin to the beds that allow each side to attain a different firmness or temperature. Although couples in committed relationships typically share some of the same interests and desires, there are inevitably some differences. The Yin Yang tub could actually be a lifesaver for those couples who can’t agree on much other than their love of spending time together. |
