Odor-Absorbing Undies Take Embarrassment out of IBS Posted: 22 Nov 2013 08:00 AM PST There is no way around this simple truth: everybody gets gas from time to time. For some, though, it is a larger problem stemming from irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, or food intolerance. It can be incredibly embarrassing and even limit sufferers from living their lives as they normally would. British company Shreddies has developed an odor-absorbing line of underwear that could help people with digestive problems to maintain their dignity. A back panel made of Zorflex – a material used in chemical warfare suits to stop harmful odors from reaching their wearers – is responsible for this effect. Zorflex is carbon-based, and washing renews its odor-absorbing properties. It would be easy to make crude jokes about passing gas and how funny odor-absorbing underwear sounds, but it can be a serious medical condition. Shreddies have the potential to make life easier and more normalized for people with uncontrollable gas. Luckily for the rest of us, they also work for people with the occasional bout of indigestion. Shreddies has yet to come up with a version of the undies that can also mask the sounds of indigestion. |
Olive Oil Dispenser Lets You Target Your Oil Distribution Posted: 21 Nov 2013 08:00 PM PST Olive oil is one of those condiments that no kitchen should be without, but getting it where you want it – and in the quantity desired – is no simple task. Croatian design group Oaza have introduced the Oil-On dispenser, a kitchen tool that lets you apply just enough olive oil, just where you want it. The actual device is kind of a no-brainer: it’s a small glass jar with a cork topper, a small wooden ball sitting in the middle of the topper. To apply the oil to bread, meat or whatever else you wish, you turn the jar upside-down and roll the oil on. It works just like a roll-on deodorant bottle, albeit with much tastier contents. The simple materials and intuitive usage would make this a must-have for any serious cook’s kitchen. While it is not yet available for purchase, Oaza has plans to manufacture and sell the Oil-On at some point in the future. |
Unified Teacup + Saucer Simplifies Tea Drinking Ritual Posted: 21 Nov 2013 02:00 PM PST The cherished ancient tea-drinking ceremony is one of the unfortunate casualties of our busy modern lives. The act of slowing down, taking time to reflect, and enjoying a simple pleasure has been largely lost among modern generations. Product Design student Hsin Lin designed her thesis project around reviving this ritual. Lin’s design is called FIN. It redefines the way tea drinkers interact with their cups and saucers, which are nearly as important to the ritual as the tea itself. Traditionally, cups and saucers are stacked separately: the saucers in a stack and the cups lined up in a neat row. Young people, always in a hurry, tend to forget how important the saucer is and end up simply grabbing a cup in a hurry. FIN changes that by uniting the cup and saucer into connected pieces that can be stacked together. The sleek, modern design will please the younger generations looking for just such an aesthetic. The cups are elegant white ceramic; the saucers are cork and feature a slot in one side through which the handle of the cup fits. When united, the cups stack atop one another with the saucers at the ready. When it is time for tea, the saucers come out of the cupboard along with the cups, and the cups fit perfectly atop the saucers. The designer believes that this added convenience will help to revive the tea ritual by making it simpler and more convenient to keep up the tea ceremony tradition. |
