Pod Lights: Standing Lamp Deploys Wireless Flashlights Posted: 05 Nov 2013 04:00 PM PST Mobile lighting on demand is just what you need when the power goes out – of course, when that happens, you might find yourself fumbling through drawers in the dark. Thus, the Pod table-mounted clamp lamp by Ashleigh Stephens which stands tall and shines thanks to stored electricity even when everything else turns off. With individual wireless pods, one can grab a few pods to walk around and leave the others hanging in place to illuminate the room. Still, the clip seems like a limiting factor – perhaps the next version could stand on the floor and thus be set more flexibility around the home. |
Open-Air Interior: Public Semi-Outdoor Cantilevered Cinema Posted: 05 Nov 2013 10:00 AM PST Blurring the boundary between inside and outside, this curious space encourages passers by to sit down and take in a show … except the show is playing on the other side of the glass, inside the building. For a cultural center in Belgium, Polish designer Pawel Grobelny (images by Michiel de Cleene) created this hybrid space – open yet sheltered, in but out, architecture and perhaps also art installation. Steel-supported timber provides seating, a backrest and roof, while the sides remain open and inviting. In the structure, people can also see the film being displayed, but outsiders are welcomed as well to interact from without. Thanks to the way the structure cantilevers out from the building, it feels like an outgrowth of the primary structure. Videos are being played 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so people can drop by even when the Cultural Centre Strombeek is closed in the middle of the night to sneak a peak. |
