Comic-book anti-hero beers: feels good to be bad

Posted: 13 Aug 2014 06:00 AM PDT

Let’s face it, it’s the heroes that are not actually heroic 100% of the time the ones that we like the most. Here’s an (alcoholic) tribute to them.

These bottles are the creation of Butcher Billy, who already has made quite a name for his uncanny creativity. This time around, he has created a collection which he called "Comic Book Super Drunk Hangout", in which we see beer bottles themed after some of Marvel & DC’s greatest anti-heroes… amongst others.

There’s no Superman or Captain America here: this collection is for the true badasses, the likes of Deadpool, Wolverine, Marv, Hellboy, The Comedian and others. Be sure to check the initial link to get the entire set!

PlayStation 4 brings back couch co-op… online

The days of couch co-op, playing together and even passing the controller can be relieved in the most unique way thanks to Playstation. Keep reading to learn more.

Sony has been doing quite right by gamers as proven by their most recent console, the Playstation 4 selling over 10 million consoles in less than a year. Still, far from being complacent (let’s not forget, Microsoft scored a big one after naming Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider their most recent exclusive!), the Sony team are still looking for new ways to entice fans.  One of these ways comes in the form of an update for the PlayStation 4, which starting from update 2.0 will be able to do what Sony deemed Share Play.

Share play basically means that the couch co-op (that is, playing together with friends using two controllers, or just passing yours along) can be done remotely, via the Internet. This is more than just online multi-player, this means that gamers can play without having to buy two copies of the game: say, you’re playing Diablo 3, and your buddy can join right in without having to buy Diablo 3 himself, as if he/she was sitting right next to you. Just like the good old days, except without leaving the house. Gamers can take turns, or play simultaneously if the game allows it, which is literally a game-changer, as it means to bring gaming to the masses: gamers now get to play whether they own the game or not, as long as one friend does.

Sony named some games that are already working on getting this functionality up, amongst which we can count NBA2K, Towerfall and Child of Light for now. System software update 2.0 for PS4 will come out “this fall”, and will also allow gamers to upload footage to YouTube amongst other new functionalities.

The cycling revolution: SKULLY Smart Motorcycle Helmet

Posted: 12 Aug 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Smart-Motorcycle-Helmet

A car has space for smart devices and gadgets, but a motorcycle not so much. Where there’s space, it’s gotta count, and the helmet seems the perfect place for it.

Gadgets & motorcyclists can still potentially happen if the team behind the SKULLY concept have it their way: this is a next-gen smart helmet that does more than protecting the wearer, as it incorporates some of that technology that up until now didn’t seem compatible with bikes, such as rearview cameras and GPS navigation systems.

As of now, the SKULLY is looking to be funded at Indiegogo, where it has already raised the initial pledge of $250,000, and ready to start production. Still, it has 29 days to go, and many features that could possibly be added with more pledges.

Make no mistake: the SKULLY is no cheap toy, as the initial required pledge to actually receive one is $1399 USD, but it has plenty of features to justify that price. From the aforementioned GPS and rear-view cameras to software that allows hands-free calling, integrated audio (yes, on a motorcycle!) and Internet via pairing with your own phone, the SKULLY is meant to replace every other gadget you could possibly need while on the road. Check the video below these lines to learn more.

Sony Ends PlayStation Mobile Initiative On Android

After two years, Sony is giving up on its cross-platform strategy for all future Android-powered smart phones.

PlayStation Mobile began two years ago as a digital conduit for select PlayStation Network titles and PSone classics to be enabled across certified Android smartphones. Fast forward to this week (Wednesday, August 6), Sony has announced that PlayStation Mobile will come to an end, dropping support for the mobile platform in future Android OS updates.

The company will be moving away from what was supposed to be an inciting carrot-on-a-stick for mobile developers to create games for Android and the PlayStation Vita (especially the PS Vita, given how the the industry was moving away from dedicated handhelds faster than you could say moolah), easing the resources and dev-time needed to support both.

While it did help grease the wheels for better Indie support in the long run, PlayStation Mobile itself never truly caught on. It never attracted the Angry Birds’ of the world, and in most cases, mobile developers chose to just create native games for the PlayStation Vita itself, completely bypassing the need for PlayStation Mobile certification.

As it goes forward, PlayStation Mobile will only be accessible on Android devices running the Google mobile OS version 4.4.2 or lower. Newer devices might be able to run some PS Mobile games, but they are sure to come with potential technical hiccups. And with the upcoming Android L OS launching in late 2014, traces of PS Mobile functionality will be erased completely.
