Intel’s 5th generation chips from CES 2015 Posted: 16 Jan 2015 11:10 AM PST CES 2015 saw the introduction of the Broadwell series for Intel, the latest entry in the Core family that are scheduled to arrive in the first trimester of 2015. These chips are meant to provide users with more graphical rendering power and extra duration for the internal batteries. Computers keep getting exponentially more powerful while consuming less and less resources in time. Part of that is the result of Intel’s research and development team who have managed to improve battery life between 20 and 30 percent with this latest entry with their Core series. Other improvements include 3D rendering (22% better), while traditional video rendering will see a 50 percent increase in effectiveness. At the same time, Intel devices will now be able to do 4K natively. The best is yet to come, though, and we can’t wait to see what will come of developers using Intel’s technology on their new devices. Asus and Samsung have already announced new models that will sport these new Intel chips on notebooks, tablets, and many, many other devices available to the public. There will be 14 Core i3, i5 and i7 processors in total grouped under the Broadwell brand. Be social! Follow Walyou on Facebook and Twitter! Laptop mod houses both a PS4 and Xbox One inside of it Posted: 15 Jan 2015 12:46 PM PST The same modder we had seen creating portable versions of Microsoft and Sony’s latest consoles is back in action with his biggest project yet. Halo or The Last of Us? How about both? The latest project by master modder Eddie Zarick consists of a laptop case expanded and rearranged to hold both Microsoft and Sony’s latest consoles, the Xbox One and PS4 respectively. This was done as a request, and took over a month of work. There is a switch on the back users can flick to toggle between consoles (only one can be on at a time), but surprisingly, no heating issues at all. We had seen Zarick’s previous mods at Walyou (Xbook Duo: Two Microsoft Gaming Systems In One Laptop and Portable PS4 laptop mod: this is your destiny), but this is the first time he’s combined these two consoles in one single case. They just keep getting better and better! Now if only he manages to cram a Wii U in there for some mandatory Smash Bros breaks, it’ll be just perfect. Be social! 9 Disney Princesses Reimagined as Indian Brides Posted: 15 Jan 2015 06:00 AM PST The most popular theme in Internet alternative fan art is taking Disney Princesses and giving them some new, unique look. Weddings aren’t excluded from this trend, but giving it an Indian twist is still something new and original. Amrit Grewal who took the photographs for this project wanted to demonstrate how Disney can inspire multiple ethnicities' aesthetics. This was done together with Jasmine Nijjar, who worked as the Marketing Manager for Wellgroomed Designs, an Indian couture bridal gallery. Jasmine built a theme that used each Disney princess movie as the inspiration all while integrating traditional Indian bridal wear. New Wave Of Nintendo’s Amiibos Headed To North America Posted: 15 Jan 2015 04:00 AM PST The next two months will see a fresh collectable batch of Nintendo’s tap-and-interact figures coming to the states.
Prepare your wallets for a new installment of Amiibo figures, which are coming their way to North American retailers on in the next two months. Already a huge success, with particular figures being immensely popular and already quite hard to find, Nintendo is furthering their latest toy-making efforts by pushing out a new third-wave wave of their Super Smash Bros. line of Amiibos that are coming in February. They’re also introducing a new line of Amiibos based Super Mario Bros. series, which debut March 20. The Super Mario Bros. Amiibo line includes the the first-ever Toad Aiimbo, who can be used in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Nintendo Wii U to unlock a special pixel Toad character for players to find. All figures, of course, will bring their own effect for certain titles: In the upcoming Mario Party 10 for Wii U (also available on March 20), players can use either the Super Smash Bros. line or the newly announced Super Mario Bros. line of aiimbos to bring that character into the game in Aiimbo Mode and activate a special character-themed board. Buying Blackberry Could Make Samsung Devices More Secure Posted: 15 Jan 2015 12:08 AM PST If there’s one thing that still redeems Blackberry, it must be its security features, but up until now no other company has thought of acquiring the Canadian smartphone manufacturer for its patents. Samsung is attempting to do that in order to improve the security of its mobile devices. The patent war has been going on for a few years now, and most acquisitions are made exactly with the purpose of having some unique advantages over the competition. Blackberry may not be getting a lot of love for its design, nor for its latest mobile platform, but there still one area where it excels. Security patents are the things that keep Blackberry relevant in a world where all the other technical specs are changing every other month. Sure, the Passport had flagship specs at the time of its launch, but there aren’t a lot of people out there fond of its design. Hence, Samsung buying Blackberry could lead to those security features being implemented in more pocket-friendly devices. Bear in mind that neither of them confirmed the rumors, despite Reuters claiming to even know the sum Samsung would pay for Blackberry: $7.5bn. That’s not supposed to mean that without Blackberry’s patent portfolio Samsung would be naked as a jaybird when facing hackers. South Korea’s tech giant has its own security platform, known as KNOX (not an acronym, just a reference to Fort Knox), but considering that the best devices coming from this manufacturer are running Android, a few additional layers of security wouldn’t hurt. Android has a bit of a dark history as far as security is concerned, with the latest story revealing that Google refuses to fix a bug that affects 60% of Android devices. A lot of things change when a company is acquired by another, and it is currently unknown how and if Blackberry would continue to exist, should it be bought by Samsung. If Blackberry devices will keep being manufactured post-acquisition (I imagine that the POTUS Obama, the owner of a Blackberry smartphone himself, would frown otherwise), the staff of the Canadian company will keep their jobs. Hopefully, Samsung is interested in more than just getting the patents that would make its devices some of the most secure in the world. Be social!
