Mamma Nessie Colander Is a Cute Match for Boiled Vegetables

Mama Nessie 1

It may seem odd for a manufacturer of kitchen appliances to get inspiration for the design of their products from such cryptids as the Loch Ness Monster, but OTOTO Design appears to have hit a gold mine with their Mamma Nessie colander .

The Mamma Nessie colander comes a few months after the Nessie ladle made waves on the Web. The reason behind the naming is quite simple: due to its similar shape and larger dimensions, the colander spoon looks much like a nest for the ladle, and the two are spectacular together.

OTOTO, the design studio that came up with the idea of creating all sorts of funny-looking kitchen gadgets, realized that most products found in stores nowadays have a pretty dull aspect. Young people, in particular, could benefit from colorful appliances and innovative designs, as it’s nothing more depressing than to cook in a black and inox environment.

Measuring 12x11x29 cm, Mamma Nessie is entirely made out of plastic. Personally, I would have preferred silicone, as it withstands much higher temperatures. However, given its purpose and the fact it mostly comes in contact with boiling water, the colander spoon should be safe.

The dimensions of the spoon make Mamma Nessie adequate for boiled vegetables, but short pasta is also an option to consider. As far as I can tell, the colander spoon won’t play well with spaghetti or tagliatelle, so if you’re looking for a tool to handle these, you should probably check the other products from OTOTO’s portfolio.

Mamma Nessie is currently being sold by SOHO Design Shop for $18.90, in two color options: green and turquoise. A purple version isn’t yet available, but considering that the ladle comes in this color, it shouldn’t take long until Mamma is dressed in it, too. In time, this colander spoon might be sold by more stores, but for the time being, the green version is exclusive to SOHO.

It is also possible to buy the Nessie set, which includes the colander spoon and the ladle. This way, you get to add a touch of color to your kitchen, while also saving some money, as getting the two separately costs more. Sets of differently colored Mamma Nessies should be available soon, considering that ladle sets are already being sold.

Sony introduced their next Xperia phone, the Sony Xperia J1 Compact themed after the Metal Gear Solid video game series, which is coming back in September with Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain.

It’s not very common to see smartphones in the market themed after popular video games. They generally get themes after brands such as Ferrari or Porsche, or popular franchises at the time such as Samsung’s Iron Man themed Galaxy series, but gamers can be happy now as Sony have introduced their Sony Xperia J1 Compact, themed after the upcoming video game Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain. Gamers will be able to buy their Sony smartphone sporting an Outer Haven logo on the back, along with wallpapers, ringtones and an artbook to match, all based on the Metal Gear franchise. The J1 Compact will be the only Xperia model to include all of these items, although the Xperia Z4 tablet and Xperia Z3 Compact will feature themed framed and casing. The Sony Xperia J1 Compact The Phantom Pain edition will be available for preorders on September for $480 USD.

The specs will be no different from the regular edition, so this is more of a treat for fans than its own, unique model. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the most awaited video games of the last few years, and with its conflicted yet imminent launch happening in a couple weeks for now, it has made quite a few headlines. For example, creator Hideo Kojima will be leaving Konami after the release of the game after the company canceled his other project Silent Hills (which had Guillermo del Toro’s collaboration, even) amongst many other news.
