Informal Storage: Wood Slat Wall Inspired by Safari Vests

Posted: 30 Sep 2012 10:00 AM PDT

[ Filed under More & in the Installation Art category ]

We spend time and money trying to hide our messes, but at the end of the day, often keep track subconsciously of where all our stuff is anyway. What if we were to celebrate disorder and couple it with accessibility?

Phoebe Washburn is actually an artist, not organizer, by trade, but there are interesting lessons to be taken from this installation project.

In her case, the wall is composed of overlapping slats of found wood, given it depth, dimension and just a hint of chaos – layered on top are other found objects, at once disorganized but hinting at shed pegboards and other functional storage systems.

Adventure Time Famicom Carts From simplyAWFUL

What time is it?! Time for some dazzling fan-made Adventure Time Famicom carts!

SimplyAWFUL, huh? I don’t quite see it, because for my eyes, these imaginary cart labels for the Cartoon Network show, Adventure Time, are far from that description. Nope, they’re pretty amazing and out-of-sight, just like the cartoon they’re ...

Two Face Optical Illusion

Sorry guys for me being absent for the last two days. I just hope this illusion Sandile found will make it up for the gap.

If you concentrate on the photo our South African fan shared, one I have attached to the right of this article, you will see what appears to be fused frontal/profile headshot of a young man. Now if you observe this very same image with your palm covering first left, and then right side of his face, you will end up with some pretty confusing results.

I’ve created a mockup below just to make it easier for you to see both frontal and sideway view. Even though we had something similar posted here before, I still have trouble figuring these kind of illusions.

Unfortunately, Sandile didn’t provide us with info on the artist behind this, so if you have any clues be sure to share them inside your comments. Higher-res original can be found right after the jump.

I’m a South African who loves illusions. I really don’t know if you have this one, but it’s been disturbing my brain for quite some time now. I really admire the person who created this and just thought I could share it with everyone. Keep up the good work! – Sandile, RSA

Fold-Up Bathtub Concept Designed to Save Space in Style

Posted: 29 Sep 2012 10:00 AM PDT

[ Filed under & in the Baths & Showers category ]

For some of us, showers are sufficient, but if you want a more spa-like experience, or at least a full bathtub, space can be a serious factor in urban settings.

Designer Dominik Chojnacki has a vision for a fold-up tub that provides the amenities you want but that takes up the same space as a shower.

Potential problems of this prototype, though, are clear: drainage when you tilt it up, robustness of the mechanism and of course … why doesn’t it double as a stand-up shower when not being used as a tub? Still, a neat concept nonetheless.
