Anastasiya Shpagina (Fukkacumi) – Ukraine’s Real-Life Anime Girl Posted: 10 Sep 2012 05:12 AM PDT It’s official, this real-life anime trend has gotten completely out of hand. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t stumble upon some photos of girls going to any lengths in order to look like real live anime characters. Today’s example, Anastasiya Shpagina, an Ukrainian girl who has even taken a Japanese name – Fukkacumi. Not the most inspired choice, I must say… Just last Friday I wrote an article about a rather creepy-looking Chinese model called Tina Leopard, who had the pointiest chin I’d ever seen and had risen to Internet fame thanks to her anime-like appearance. I had discovered there was actually a trend sweeping China, with thousands of Chinese teens posting photos of themselves with anime-style makeup and hairstyles, but apparently it’s not just China that’s affected by this bizarre fashion. Venus Angelic, a young Londoner who made headlines in international media for her YouTube videos where she talks and makes herself look like a living Japanese doll, and Dakota Rose(aka Kotakoti) from America, were also praised for their genuine anime looks, and now the trend has apparently hit Eastern Europe as well. After Valeria Lukyanova sparked controversy in Ukrainian and Russian media with her doll-like features a few months back, it’s Anastasiya Shpagina’s turn to baffle us with her realistic anime-like looks. Coincidentally, she’s from the same town as Valeria, Odessa. 19-year-old Anastasiya (Nastya) Shpagina has been called “the new Barbie” by national news outlets, but she later revealed she’s striving to become a real-life Japanese anime character, not a doll. She even posted “I am not like a doll, a doll is like me …” as the tagline on her VKontakte profile page. Apparently, Nastya has been passionate about makeup even as a young child, always experimenting with it in the mirror. Over time she also developed a thing for Japanese cartoons and it was only a matter of time before she started using her make-up artist skills to transform herself into a real-life anime girl. But just putting on makeup wasn’t enough to attain that coveted look, so she decided to lose weight in order to seem more genuine. At 1.58-meters-tall, Anastasiya weighs just 39 kilos and is trying to lose one more in order to look just right. She has even taken the name Fukkacumi,to sound more Japanese. Shpagina was interviewed by various Ukrainian newspapers and made appearances on television shows, where she admitted a lot of people are freaked out by her look swhen they see her on the streets of Odessa. She loves bumping into Japanese tourists, though. The young hairdresser says their eyes become as large as Europeans when they see how close her face resembles that of an anime character. Some of them try to talk to her, but they don’t speak Russian and she doesn’t understand Japanese. Every day, Anastasiya gets up at five in the morning, in order to be at work by nine. That’s because she needs a lot of time to get into character. It takes her 30 minutes to do the makeup on one of her eyes, and the entire face is ready in about two hours. That’s probably why she would like to have surgery in order to change the shape of her eyes permanently. She says this kind of surgical procedure is very common in Japan, but she doesn’t know if it’s also available in the Ukraine. She would like to get her waist reduced surgically as well, in order to look more like an anime character. But for now, she has to make do with makeup in order to look as realistic as possible. Nastya has said Valeria Lukyanova is one of her role models, and the two are actually pictured together in some of her photos. Although she does look exactly like a Japanese anime girl in some of the photos she posted online, in others she just looks like a huge-eyes creepy monster. Check out the photos and judge for yourself.

Bolivian Movie Marathon Exceeds 200 Hours, Sets New Guinness Record Posted: 10 Sep 2012 03:31 AM PDT I love watching movies, but doing it continuously for over 200 hours seems like an impossible feat. But not for two Bolivian movie aficionados who recently won a national movie marathon contest and split a prize of $10,000. Last year, Bolivia set a new world record for the longest movie marathon. Felipe Gonzalo Ticona managed to stay awake for 131 hours watching all kinds of different films, but because a Guinness representative wasn’t present on scene, his record wasn’t certified so the title remained in the possession of a certain Indian gentleman. But this year, Bolivian movie theater chain “Cine Center” was determined to snatch the title of longest ever movie marathon for their home country, so they announced another monumental film-watching event that would take place simultaneously in three of Bolivia’s largest cities: La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. The person who managed to beat all other participants and surpass the current record of 128 hours was guaranteed a prize of $10,000 and his name mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records. In total, over 1,400 film fans signed up for the chance to see dozens of films and win the attractive cash prize. At first, organizers decided to allow only people over 18 to enter the competition, but after receiving a considerable number of requests from younger movie buffs, they decided to allow teens as well, as long as they presented a signed authorization from their parents. Everyone had to pay a $14 entrance fee. Bolivian movie marathon 2011 – Photo: EFE The great Bolivian movie marathon kicked off on September 1, and had a pretty straightforward set of rules. Contestants had to watch movies of different genres, including action, comedy and drama for as long as they could, with 15 minute breaks between movies, and three half-hour breaks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cine Center also brought in a medical staff to evaluate participants’ physical state throughout the event, and anti-drug agents to prevent any kind of doping attempts. Bolivian movie marathon 2011- Photo: La Paz Vanguardia After a week of continuous movie-watching, only 9 contestants from the three Bolivian cities were still competing for the $10,000 prize. Others wanted to continue as well, but after careful medical examination, they were eliminated so not to put their lives at risk. “Now in the final stretch, the health of the participants comes first, that’s why we eliminate the contestants who can not continue”, said Ariel Rodrigues, marketing representative of Cine Center. One of the nine remaining participants said he only got this far thanks to fruit, coffee, energizers and eating zero heavy or greasy foods, while another admitted it was the craziest thing he has ever done. The previous record had already been beaten, but participants kept their eyes glued to the screens hoping to win the grand prize. On September 9, after 190 hours of watching dozens of films, just three people were left in the race, one in each of the three cities enrolled in the competition. But after 190 hours and 18 minutes, Alejandro Toro, from La Paz, voluntarily withdrew from the competition saying: “I voluntarily withdrew from the competition, not because I could not continue, but because, above all the things I value the things that can not be bought with money. I appreciate the love and support of my family and friends who were with me at all times.” Bolivian movie marathon 2011 – Photo: Giannina Machicado/La Prensa Finally, this morning the longest movie marathon in history ended after 200 hours, 30 minutes and 50 seconds. The last two people left in the race, Ronald Cuellar (Santa Cruz) and Huber Felipez (Cochabamba), agreed to call it a draw and split the $10,000 prize. On Wednesday they will be officially rewarded by the competition sponsors and their names will be featured in the Guinness Book of Records. Chinese Man Has Lived on Water Alone for the Last 12 Years Posted: 10 Sep 2012 02:20 AM PDT How long can you survive without food? It all depends on a person’s weight, overall health and metabolic rate, but according to scientific data, a human being can’t go much longer than 3 weeks without food. Now, a 22-year-old man from China means to challenge this theory claiming he has survived 12 years on water alone. Ning Xuefa, a young man from China’s Henan province, has recently made headlines for claiming he hasn’t had a bite of food in the last 12 years. Looking at the 1.50-meter-tall, 40-kg-heavy Ning one can tell he doesn’t like to eat much, but his story seems almost impossible to believe. He told Chinese media that he completely renounced food when he was just a 10-year-old child. Just looking at bread or vegetables at the dinner table made him nauseous, and he always had a dry throat and a weird sensation like something was stuck there that made him drink lots of water all day long. He currently consumes up to 15 liters of water in a day, and his father back up his story that he never touches a single scrap of food, whether it’s rice, steamed bread or meat. The closest thing to food that doesn’t make Ning Xuefa sick is milk, but his family is too poor to buy milk for him every day. So the thirsty young man is forced to survive on water alone. He tried to get a job in construction to help out his parents, but his weak body, frail constitution and the constant need to go to the bathroom even at night eventually got him fired. Ning had to return home and depend on his family for help. But, considering his eating habits, I don’t think they consider him a big burden. Ning Xuefa has also been examined by doctors and diagnosed with a rare chronic thirst-inducing disease, but they haven’t yet been able to determine how he was able to survive all these years without any kind of food. Usually I’d be quick to classify this story as bogus, but I remember writing about the Indian Yogi who proved he can survive on air alone, and the woman who didn’t drink water for 78 years. I’ll try to keep an eye on this story to see how it develops.
