Breathtaking Studio is a Cozy Study in Contrasts + Textures Posted: 10 Apr 2013 10:00 AM PDT In a smaller home, the first instinct is often to divide up the space, but impressive effects are possible through emphasizing the openness of the home. House at the Lake, a project from designer Igor Sirotov, embraces the rawness of the studio. One space flows neatly into the next with as little physical and visual separation as possible. Despite the starkness of the decor and the monochromatic look, the home’s diverse textures tie it all together. Wood, concrete, glass, metal, textiles – they all mingle harmoniously in the space, creating a spectrum of textures rather than one of colors. While the studio is impressively appointed, it is somewhat lacking in privacy thanks to its open plan. The stunning living space is flooded with natural light and, although small, feels like an impressively comfortable place to pass a lazy weekend afternoon. |
Hand-Held Coffee Shop: 30-Second Microwave Espresso Posted: 09 Apr 2013 04:00 PM PDT It was only a matter of time until someone found a way to bypass that over-priced coffee house process, right? Well, it all depends on whether the taste and texture stand up to the test. Piamo claims it does, and that they have created a hold-in-your-hand device that makes complex high-quality drinks in just thirty seconds – an amazing feat if true. Add the ingredients, stack and flip the device, pop it in the microwave, and your machine does the rest. Best of all, it is small enough to take with you to the office or while traveling so you are never far from your next brew. |
