Have Tea, Will Travel: Folding Kettle Takes Earl Grey to Go Posted: 27 Sep 2013 10:00 AM PDT Some people are just so used to having a cup of tea every couple of hours that they can’t stand to be without it when they’re away from home. Now those people won’t have to look for a restaurant when the craving strikes, because the Novel kettle is portable enough to take literally anywhere. Invented by Stanislav Sabo, the Novel kettle features a heatproof plastic on the outside and a lining of 100% silicone. It is the silicone that makes the kettle watertight and allows it to fold flat. It receives power from an energy source through a bayonet adapter and a cord that is attached to the removable base piece. There are small magnets embedded in the Novel which allow the pieces to snap into place whether the kettle is opened up or folded shut. The magnets also let you conveniently hang the Novel from metal surfaces.
According to the designer, the Novel folds up small enough to fit into your back pocket. It could also easily slip into a laptop bag, purse or backpack so that wherever you go, you can always count on a cup of hot tea. |
Redesigned Cutlery Makes First Dates a Bit More Bearable Posted: 26 Sep 2013 04:00 PM PDT There is no getting around the fact that first dates can be some of the most awkward experiences of one’s life. They can be made much less traumatic, however, by simply remembering your manners and being a polite, civilized human being. Designer Christina Guardiola thinks that this can be achieved with a special set of cutlery. The London designer has created a set of eating utensils called First Date Cutlery. It consists of a knife, fork, soup spoon and dessert spoon. They all have small but significant tweaks that make them different than everyday utensils. The fork and knife each contain small embedded magnets. The two pieces are meant to be crossed over each other between bites, encouraging diners to take a break from eating and get to know each other. The soup spoon has been specially designed to eliminate slurping and reduce the risk of spills. A slightly protruding side lets diners eat their soup properly: from the side of the spoon, and silently. Finally, the dessert spoon encourages the daters to get a little closer. It has an especially wide eating surface which is perfect for feeding each other bites. With the unique design, each person gets their own part of the spoon to themselves, eliminating awkward inadvertent first-date saliva mingling. |
