Batman Coffee Table: Dark Knight Relaxes Posted: 27 May 2014 07:00 AM PDT Batman doesn’t get to decorate his mansion with bats for fear of giving away his secret identity. This table, though, would be a perfect fir for the batcave. If you’re not secretly the Dark Knight (although we know – we know) and just a dedicated fan, these might be up your alley. These Batman coffee tables are the creation of Charles Lushear at Bohemian Workbench. These are display only, and can’t be bought, but we couldn’t pass on showing them to you. Also, if you like what you see, be sure to check their Etsy shop to see many other geeky designs as cool as this one. Source: Technabob Be social! 5 Game of Thrones Characters Like They Were in a Disney Movie Posted: 27 May 2014 06:00 AM PDT The Fantasy world of Game of Thrones or A Song of Ice and Fire, in the books and the TV Show, is a grim and unhappy place most of the time. Giving it the Disney touch suddenly has everyone smiling and happy. Daenerys Targaryen
I don’t remember Daenerys Targaryen ever having a red dragon, nor has any one of those three been so chummy and smiling, even with their “mother”. Tyrion Lannister
Few characters are as R-Rated as Tyrio at his absolute best, but even lecherous drunks can become PG-13 with the right artistic touch. Cersei Lannister
Disney films has had plenty of bad bitches and scummy men featuring in them. I’m not sure Cersei would even be the worst of them. Bran Stark & Hodor
It’s mostly grey, cold and grim as Bran and Hodor make their way up north. In a Disney film, not so much. Jon Snow & Ghost
Ghost tears the spine out of people’s throats and Jon Snow rarely smile. Life is different in a Disney movie. Google To Experiment With 3D Imaging Devices Posted: 27 May 2014 05:00 AM PDT Google has reportedly joined the 3d race and is working on tablets & smartphones capable of taking and displaying 3D images. Starting next month, Google is set to release a first run of 4,000 devices with two rear-facing cameras and software. As we reported before, this is not official as of now and just rumors, but many developers claim to be already aware and working with the company, Google spoke last March of Project Tango, an organized project that would marry their devices with the 3D technology available today. Initial prototypes had been given to chosen developers to try out, so there should be progress in that area. This way, Google would be joining the likes of Nintendo’s very own 3DS as one of the first portable devices capable of 3D without glasses, which were the biggest setback for this technology to catch on. We’re expecting this technology to eventually work along with Facebook’s newly acquired Oculus VR technology. Source: BBC Be social! Samsung Might Be Working on a Standalone Smartwatch Posted: 26 May 2014 01:57 PM PDT It’s not as if Samsung didn’t already have a few smartwatches in its portfolio, but a standalone one is a whole different beast. With such a device, Samsung would catch up with the Chinese companies that have manufactured such devices for months now. The whole concept of having a device around your wrist that can display various types of info exactly when you need it has been great for a while, but the products were sold to us with a major asterisk. You need to also carry around a smartphone so that the smartwatch picks up the notifications from it and displays them on its own screen. Besides that, the smart time pieces created by big names such as Sony and Samsung have only acted like remote controls for the smartphones until now, as the small gadgets from around the wrist didn’t even pack a GPS sensor for fitness tracking, for example. Things are definitely about to change if Samsung launches a standalone smartwatch, as the patent pictured below suggests. As I mentioned before, Chinese companies have been manufacturing stand alone Android smartwatches for a few months now, and while their products are not perfect, they’re evidence that it is indeed possible to create such things. Samsung’s standalone smartwatch might not even run Android, to begin with, as the South Korean company has been quite stubborn lately about implementing its own Tizen OS in the smartwatches it launched earlier this year, and the Gear Glass smart glasses it means to launch in the coming months. A standalone smartwatch running Tizen could make sense, as Samsung really needs something to put some distance between it and Google, who is having its own share of smartwaches with LG’s G Watch and Motorola’s Moto 360. The standalone phone-watch made by Samsung should be able to send emails, take pictures, track the biometric data of the wearer and even include a GPS sensor for proper fitness tracking, all without the need for a companying smartphone. All of that would be great, especially if the device came with a decent price tag. There are a few concerns, though, most of them regarding the battery life of a device with such features and so many sensors, and Samsung’s history in this field has been somehow spotty. We’re waiting for the company to prove us wrong! Be social! eCool Refrigerates Your Beer Way Below Ground Level Posted: 26 May 2014 01:25 PM PDT Cellars have been used for keeping food cool for hundreds, if not thousands of years, so from that point of view, the concept used by the eCool refrigerator is not that new. eCool is a crank operated cellar with a very small footprint, fact that makes it great for all type of backyards. Let’s face it, beer in the summer is like water in the desert, so making sure that it is served cool is highly recommended. This compact refrigerator measures 4 feet (1.2 meters) in height, so if you listed “digging” among your favorite activities, eCool’s right for you. According to its developers, it would probably be better if you used a garden drill to drive a hole in the ground, but if shoveling is your thing, there’s no one who can stop you. It provides enough room for 24 cans and doesn’t have to be dug up when the weather gets colder. On the contrary, once you dig up a hole in the ground and place it in, you can leave it there. That’s particularly great news if you live in a warm area where cold beers are welcome all year round. Using eCool is pretty intuitive. After popping the top, you need to use the hand-crank to get a can to the surface. The same procedure is used when lowering a can in the ground, so things are rather straightforward with this gadget. eCool is capable of chilling the beer down to the temperature of the surrounding soil, and since that differs from one climate to the other, the manufacturers of this underground beer cooler couldn’t have provided a precise number. Regardless of that, the beer will undoubtedly be cooler than above the surface. If you found this interesting, then you’d probably be happy to know that eCool is already on sale and for $300 (approximately £178, AU$324), it can be yours! This underground beer cooler proves particularly useful if you get a lot of power outages in your area (case in which you should probably move out), or if you are a green head concerned about saving the planet. Also, if you’re somewhere in the middle of nowhere (a desert, maybe?), having some cold beer handy might prove useful! Be social!
