Caravan Concept Brings Modern Sleekness to RV Travel Posted: 16 May 2014 08:00 AM PDT Most recreational vehicles aren’t exactly stylish, and even the well-appointed models tend to be more traditional in the look of their fixtures, furniture and decor. The nHOME Caravan by Polish designers Michal Kozlowski and Lukasz Pasckowski is designed specifically for a pair of young people with modern sensibilities, with all of the amenities required for a comfortable holiday on the road. “In today's busy world, young people need distraction from everyday life filled with stress, inactivity and monotony,” say the designers. “When looking for a way to spend your holidays are often looking for something that would give them a break to spend free time in an active way. Caravaning is a form of tourism that allows recreation.” Small and compact at just over 1650 pounds, the nHOME doesn’t take up a lot of space, yet offers a fold-away dining table, dining benches that transform into a bed, a small kitchen and a wet room. The kitchen offers two stove eyes, a mini-fridge and freezer, a sink and lots of hidden storage for dishes, cookware and food. A large skylight illuminates the interior during the day and enables a view of the stars at night. The design maintains all of the easy-to-manufacture, lightweight qualities of contemporary RVs, with the capability to close everything up for travel. |
Life in the Woods: Thoreau-Inspired Serene Garden Retreat Posted: 15 May 2014 08:00 AM PDT Great art inspires more great art, and designer Nils Holger Moormann used a classic work of literature to inspire a lovely piece of architecture. Henry David Thoreau’s Walden; or, Life in the Woods was a story about one man’s love affair with nature. Moormann built Walden, this quirky but sophisticated piece of outdoor furniture, to allow others to enjoy nature and a simple life. The structure looks a bit like a very tall, narrow garden shed. Various cutouts and storage spaces, all open to the world, display all sorts of things that you might associate with a pleasant, simple day outdoors. A birdhouse sits in one cutout while another holds drinking glasses. Gardening tools are displayed as though they are pieces of art. A dedicated space for firewood sits directly next to a hanging cauldron which can be used for the requisite summer night campfire and cookout. After a day of working in the yard is through, a cutout space in the middle of the structure contains seating and a small table. Rich red curtains on either side provide a bit of privacy for those long, intimate conversations shared over glasses of whiskey or wine. When the conversation becomes slow and the fire dies down, you can climb a wooden ladder to the small sleeping space on the upper level. You can open the clear sunroof to enjoy the wind on your skin, or close it to keep the bugs away while you watch the clouds float by. ... |
