Fondue Slippers Mold into a Perfect Replica of Your Feet Posted: 07 Jun 2014 09:01 AM PDT Taking the ‘barefoot shoe’ concept to its breaking point is the Fondue Slipper, a custom-fitted pair of shoes created by casting a mold of the wearer’s feet in liquid PVC. The slipper comes as a DIY kit in a variety of colors, made at home by dipping your feet into the solution and then hardening the mold with a hair dryer. The result is a slipper that’s entirely custom and extremely thin, feeling as close to barefoot as a shoe ever can. It can be worn both inside and out, folding the back down for quick slip-ons. Decorations can be drawn directly on the PVC with a marker. PVC definitely doesn’t breathe very well, but the Fondue is fully washable so you can keep your feet fresh, avoiding any unpleasant associations with the cheese dip of the same name. |
Inception Dish Drainer is a Flexible Little Manhattan Posted: 06 Jun 2014 02:00 PM PDT In the movie Inception, a strip of New York City rolls up on itself, with the streets and buildings ripping themselves from their earth-bound positions and rolling into the sky. This scene was the inspiration behind the Inception dish strainer/desk organizer from designer Luca Nichetto. While visiting a friend’s office, Nichetto saw a small model of Manhattan on a desk and the idea took shape. The flexible silicone replica of Manhattan features simplified buildings of all shapes and sizes. The protruding buildings work perfectly for holding up dishes as they air dry. But the silicone protuberances can also be used to hold mail or other office supplies. Model skyscrapers and the spaces between them are effective holders, bending but not collapsing between their weight. |
