Heartwarming Story of Man Who Still Eats Out with His Late Wife Melts Internet Hearts

Posted: 31 Oct 2014 06:40 AM PDT

This picture of an elderly man eating out with a photo of his late wife has melted the hearts of thousands after it went viral last week. It was tweeted by Madina Bashizadah, who clicked the picture while having lunch with a friend at In-N-Out Burger in Fremont, California. Since she uploaded the pic on October 22, it has been retweeted over 8,000 times.

Madina said that she noticed the man seated at a nearby table, eating his meal while staring at a framed photograph in front of him. She immediately interpreted that the woman in the photo must be his deceased wife. This moved her so much that she burst into tears and couldn't bring herself to approach him.

"When I saw him, I got very emotional and started tearing up," she later said. "My best friend wanted me to talk to him but I couldn't without breaking down." Other diners at the restaurant, however, did pluck up the courage to speak to the old man and ask him about the photo. He confirmed that the woman was indeed his wife who had passed away five years ago, and he seemed excited to talk about her and share their beautiful love story .

Jon Neill Creates the Most Amazing Pumpkin Carvings You’ve Ever Seen

Posted: 31 Oct 2014 06:23 AM PDT

Hollywood artist Jon Neill's pumpkin carvings are so scary they might just give you nightmares this Halloween. The big, wrinkly faces and mouths full of crooked teeth are so life-like and rich in detail that it's hard to believe they're actually made of plain old pumpkins.

Neill, originally from Kansas City, has been carving pumpkins ever since he was a boy. His family used to grow them, and over the years, his traditional jack-o-lanterns morphed into creepy works of art. But his skills didn't receive recognition until a few years ago, when the San Fernando Valley resident turned pro. He auditioned for the TV show Halloween Wars as a pumpkin artist, for which he made a few time-lapse videos of himself at work. When one of those videos was put up on YouTube, it started to receive thousands of hits, and he soon became known as one of the world’s best pumpkin carving artists.

Three Crazy Norwegians Visit 19 Countries in 24 Hours, Set New World Record

Posted: 31 Oct 2014 06:02 AM PDT

Last month, three friends from Norway set a new world record for visiting the most number of countries in a day. They made it to 19 different countries across Europe in only 24 hours, beating the 2012 world record of 17 countries. Throughout the journey, they had to follow only three simple rules: physically stand in each country, complete visits within any consecutive 24-hour period, and provide media evidence.

The three extreme travelers – Gunnar Garfors, 39, Tay-young Pak, 42, and Øystein Djupvik, 40 – started their journey from Greece at midnight on September 22. From there they followed a northwestern route, passing through 18 other countries: Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Switzerland.

They managed to make their final stop in Liechtenstein, just before the 24 hours were up. And although they had time to spare at the end of the trip, bad weather conditions prevented them from making it to their 20th country, Italy. But that didn't bother the trio, who were obviously elated with their achievement.

Lenovo buys Motorola and has big plans for it

Posted: 31 Oct 2014 05:00 AM PDT

Motorola Lenovo

Motorola’s big plan for the season seems to be more than just releasing the Nexus 6, as they became a part of Lenovo today after a buyout announced earlier this year.

As of today, Motorola and Lenovo are no longer separate companies as a deal announced earlier this year finally came through. The move is mighty clever from Lenovo’s side, as the company is well known for their line of laptops that provide a great performance/price ratio, and are either the top seller or runner up any given quarter, but who had yet to dip their toes in the mobile market. Sure, the Nexus 6 might be a pricey phone but future endeavors might be permeated by Lenovo’s low price and high performance ideology, so we can’t wait to see what the future has to offer.

Motorola, on the other hand, has seen an incredible return to shape the last few years after being initially under performing in the smartwatch race. Since those early days, Motorla has released the Moto X, an incredible yet cheap smartphone, and the Moto 360, one of the best Android wear devices out there. With the cheap Moto G and Moto E coming soon, and their collaboration with Google for the Nexus 6, the future looks bright for them too.

We’re hoping that an alliance between Motorola and Lenovo brings forth the best of both worlds, with hardware that surpasses expectations for its price tag and the frequent updates they’ve gotten us used to.

The Curious Case of a Boy Who Hasn’t Felt Hungry or Thirsty in Over a Year

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 02:08 AM PDT

12-year-old Landon Jones, from Waterloo, Iowa, hasn't felt hungry or thirsty since October 14, 2013. He went to bed on a full stomach of pizza and ice cream the night before, and when he woke up, he had simply lost all sensation of hunger and thirst. Instead, the once energetic kid has been sick and suffered dizziness ever since.

A year later, Landon's parents are still baffled by his condition; they have no idea what is wrong with him or how to help him. "Landon always laughed, he was always very energetic, always wanting to ride his bike, wanting to go to the park," said Mr. Jones. "Then on October 14 of last year, he woke up and it stopped. He lost all sensation of hunger, he lost all sensation of thirst."

Landon's pediatrician in Iowa prescribed antibiotics, but they made no difference at all. He was then taken to doctors in other cities – Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Madison, and the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota – but no one has been able to give the Jones' any answers. Dr. Marc Patterson, a child neurologist at the Mayo Clinic said Landon's case might be the only one of its kind in the world.

These Oak Sticks Make Your Cheap Whiskey Taste More Expensive

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 01:41 AM PDT

Kickstarter features the most awesome inventions! The latest one we've found is the 'Whiskey Element', a simple tool that claims to make cheap whiskey taste like fine expensive liquor in just 24 hours. "Customize your whiskey in 24 hours," the product page reads. "It's your whiskey, drink it the way you want."

The product is the brainchild of a Portland-based company called Time & Oak. They argue that the best and most expensive whiskeys are made after they are aged in quality oak barrels. But if you can't afford to buy the finest whiskeys, you can probably settle for their Whiskey Elements, which are nothing more than specially designed oak sticks.

By simply adding the stick to a bottle of cheap whiskey, they claim that you can replicate the taste of high quality liquor in no time at all. That's because their 'accelerated transpiration through capillary action' can properly age cheap whiskey into a quality one by filtering impurities and infusing additional wood flavor in the spirit.

Australian Cafe Charges Different Prices for Coffee Depending on How Nice You Ask for It

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 01:24 AM PDT

The Seven Mile Beach Kiosk Café in Gerroa, New South Wales, doesn't just serve its customers good coffee, but also a lesson in politeness. In order to reinforce the importance of being nice, the café's owners are actually charging people different rates for coffee, depending on how they ask for it.

Just so this doesn't confuse their customers, they've put up a sign outside the café explaining their innovative pricing policy. According to the sign, merely asking for "A coffee" will set you back by $5.00. But saying, "A coffee, please" will bring the price down to $4.50. And if you want to go the whole mile, you could say "Good morning, a coffee please." Then they'll only charge you $4.00.
