Sony to compensate users over PS Vita’s ad claims

Posted: 26 Nov 2014 10:26 AM PST

Although the PlayStation division at Sony is having a great year thanks to the PS4 and PS3, the PS Vita has brought some new woes in the form of a court case.

Sony has finally settled their Federal Trade Commission complaint that accused them of false advertising for their portable console, the PS Vita. The complaint came to be as Sony had been announcing the Vita’s cross-platform features would work across all PS3 games, and only does with a select few instead (Shadow of the Colossus and Ico amongst them, luckily). Now, Sony seeks to compensate userts who bought their PS Vita in the US before June 1, 2012, who will be offered either a $25 cash refund or a $50 voucher for select Sony products and services. We hope PSN credit counts there, as 50 bucks is basically a year of PS Plus, AKA, 60 games across PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.

The main issue the FTC pointed out about the PS Vita ads was the inclusion of Killzone 3 as one of these cross-platform titles, something that was blatantly untrue. Another issue they remarked involved the claim that players would be able to play online via 3G, although 3G is in no way fast enough for it.

Via Geeks are sexy

Tailio Internet-Connected Litterbox Can Keep Your Cat Healthy

Posted: 26 Nov 2014 08:00 AM PST

Tailio cat litterbox

Launching on Kickstarter is Tailio, an Internet-connected litterbox that aims to keep track of a cat’s waste and use the data to keep our felines healthy.

Cats are zippy blighters. When they’re jumping on furniture, destroying said furniture or roaming the world at large (presumably looking for more furniture to attack and commandeer) it can be incredibly difficult to take care of them or even keep track of their whereabouts.

Furthermore, even if you do keep enough of an eye on your feline friend to notice that something is up, how can you be certain? You’ll worry tremendously and then if you do choose to take them to a vet, it may be too late to treat the problem effectively.

That’s something that a new Kickstarter project looks to solve. Called Tailio, the device is an Internet connected litterbox that takes the guesswork out of your pet’s healthcare.

Including cancer, diabetes, urinary tract issues and even congestive heart failure, Tailio “collects data on your cat’s weight, amount of waste, frequency of visits and behavior in the litter box”. That idea is not only will you be aware of changes in your cat (without being a feline behavioural expert) but that you’ll be able to detect changes earlier too so that if your pet does need to go to the vet, you’ll know sooner rather than alter.

How it collects said data is simple. Tailio fits under the litterbox itself and sends collected data to the mobile app. The app will alert you when your cat may need medical attention (with the option of sending the info directly to your vet) and even when the litterbox needs changing according to when you last changed it.

As it stands, Tailio has already reached its $30,000 goal (it’s at $70,000 with 16 days to go) and those who back the project can get a Tailio for $99. That’s an early bird price though and Tailio’s at that price will soon run out. More info at the source link.

15 Famous Cars We Wish Could Transform

Posted: 26 Nov 2014 06:00 AM PST

Batmobile

The Transformers movie series started out well but turned into quite a mess of explosions, stupidity and box office success. They need new ideas for robots. Not to mention a new director.

And in comes in Darren Rawlings, who had the idea of taking some famous cars that have showed up on TV or film; so famous they’re like another character in the feature, and give them their robot alter-ego. The result is quite stunning.

Batmobile (Batman)

DeLorean (Back to the Future)

Ecto-1 (Ghostbusters)

Shotaro (Akira)

Party Wagon (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Black Beauty (Green Hornet)

The Mystery Machine (Scooby-Doo)

Mach V (Speed Racer)

Pursuit (Mad Max)

Kitt (Knight Rider)

Pacer (Wayne’s World)

Herbie (The Love Bug)

Gran Torino (Starsky & Hutch)

Vandura (A-Team)

General Lee (Dukes of Hazard)

Xbook Duo: Two Microsoft Gaming Systems In One Laptop

Xbook Duo mod by Eddie Zarick image 1

Witness the combination of Xboxes past and present in this laptop gaming mod.

What's better than a Xbox One console mod? A Xbox One and a Xbox 360 console mod. Gadget enthusiast Ed Zarick has done just that with his Xbook Duo, a console laptop mod that has built-in capabilities for Microsoft's current and previous console offerings, which can be played on a collapsible 22? 1080p Vizio LCD monitor.

Stylish as it may be, I imagine the Xbook Duo would be a behemoth to lug around. Not surprising when you consider how bulky the Xbox One already is… Then you try to force (precisely, of course!) another console in such a relatively compact space? Well, it would be like trying to fit a walk-in closet's worth of clothes into a tiny suitcase.

Tight fit, huh?

Logically, I very much doubt bulk was much of a consideration in the design phase. Getting that slick combo working together was at it's forefront, and in that case – a laptop case (haha!) – the Duo is fantastic. CD loading trays for both console can be found on the side, and while you can't operate both at the same time, switching between either is as simple as a press of a button.

Plan V Failsafe Smartphone Charger Turns 9V Batteries Into Power Banks

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 12:35 PM PST

Plan V Failsafe

When the smartphone’s battery runs out, we either need to rely on power banks or hug the walls, as iPhone users usually do. The Plan V failsafe smartphone charger means to divert us from both.

9V batteries don’t get much love these days, most portable devices being powered either by AA/AAA batteries or by custom Li-Ion ones. That being said, they won’t disappear anytime soon, as people are continuously finding new purposes for them. Plan V, the failsafe smartphone charger developed by Flintu, relies on such a battery to provide you with the necessary power in your time of need.

Flintu has tried to make this gadget as useful as possible. It sure is practical when your battery runs out and you need to place a call or write a text message, but it also needs to be handy at all times. What better form factor than a keychain, in this scenario? Of course, you had better be somewhere where 9V batteries aren’t a rarity, as that would defeat the entire purpose of this smartphone charger.

“Plan V, not just another battery back-up for you to leave at home or forget to charge, it is a failsafe charging device which is ALWAYS on you. So small you won’t know it’s there, until you need it.

You’ve all experienced it at least once, you’re on the go, your phone is flat and you need to; urgently call your friend, navigate to a meeting or even worse, get out of a dangerous situation.

Plan V is a failsafe device you don’t need to charge and is so small you can take it everywhere (on your keyring). It works much like a car jumper cable. You simply connect a 9 volt battery to the Plan V device and then hook it up to your phone. And since these are the square batteries you find in smoke alarms, they’re about as widely available as chocolate bars.”

Flintu has turned to Kickstarter to raise the money needed for manufacturing the Plan V smartphone charger. Supposing that the AUD $30,000 funding goal is reached within the next 29 days, anyone who backed the project with AUD $10 as an early bird or AUD $15 as a regular backer will get their Plan V in February 2015. For a bit more you can get an powerbank capable of charging your smartphone or tablet multiple times, so you need to decide if this charger is right for you before making an investment and waiting for 3 months to get it.
