Bedroom Almanac: Wall Decor Changes With Lunar Cycle Posted: 05 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT [ Filed under Interiors & in the Bedrooms category ] The endless cycle of the moon affects us in ways that most of us don’t fully understand. Besides controlling the tides, folk wisdom holds that the phase of the moon controls everything from the success of crops to the health of one’s teeth. A group of designers set out to create a room that reflects this natural pattern. The Lunatic Room uses fluid wall projections as a sort of ambient almanac to reflect nature’s ever-flowing path. The images feature flowing plants, wild animals and slightly less natural images such as playing cards. Patterns play a large role in the room’s design. They take their shapes from natural objects and slowly move across the walls with the grace of rolling clouds. Objects inside the room also reflect the purpose of the design project. The window coverings shield the inhabitants from the effects of the moon’s rays – whether they be good or bad – and the bed linens, according to the design team, act as a “radiograph which displays the weak bodies.” [ Filed under Interiors & in the Bedrooms category ] [ Dornob | Archives | Categories | Privacy | TOS ] |
Scraplights: Recycled Corrugated-Cardboard Ceiling Lamps Posted: 05 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT [ Filed under Lights & Mirrors & in the Fixtures category ] It is not the side of cardboard we are used to seeing – that thin layer of reinforcement visible along its edges, which has a different pattern from virtually any angle. That is the aesthetic idea behind these so-called Scraplights by Graypants, laser-sliced then glued together by hand using non-toxic biodegradable adhesives. The result is at least as strong as conventional paper lanterns, and far more variegated in the interplayof light and shadow. ...[ Filed under Lights & Mirrors & in the Fixtures category ] [ Dornob | Archives | Categories | Privacy | TOS ] |
Sound Reflections: Wall Mirror Hides Hi-Tech Musical Secret Posted: 04 Jul 2012 04:00 PM PDT [ Filed under Lights & Mirrors & in the Fixtures category ] Listening to music while getting ready for the day is an easy way to make the whole experience go faster. The Open Mirror from Digital Habitat(s) integrates the music-enjoying experience into the routine of preparing for whatever awaits you when you live the house. For everyday use, the mirror is oval-shaped with a slight break near the bottom. This break is actually a sliding joint that allows the bottom portion of the mirror to slide to the side, revealing an iPod dock. Once your iPod is docked and keeping you entertained, you can control the music with just hand gestures. Even if your hands are wet or full, you can switch tracks or change the volume. As an open-source design, plans for the Open Mirror are available for download. If you are inclined – and if you have the skills – the iPod dock/mirror can be constructed at home from a kit.
