Artistic Abstraction: Installations are Like Doodles in 3D

Posted: 28 Dec 2012 10:00 AM PST

Using ordinary objects like felt, Velcro, map pins, foam core, and pipe cleaners, Diana Cooper creates large-scale installation art that is somewhat difficult to define.

The wall-size and room-size installations are a combination of sculpture, drawing, painting, and clever positioning. The result is art pieces that seem to defy explanation but that evoke a sense of wonder.

Even if you can’t say exactly why, the installations seem to convey a sense of unbridled joy and passion. The semi-ordered shapes, bright colors and energetic arrangements are like a grown-up 3D versions of a child’s abstract doodles.

Yet there is something undeniably sophisticated and almost architectural about the way these elements interact with the viewer and with the space they occupy. The installations perhaps defy definition, but that leaves viewers free to form their own personal associations with the tableaux of ordinary objects.

Outdoor Showers are a Bit of Luxury in Your Own Back Yard

Taking a long, relaxing shower is undoubtedly one of the most blissful parts of any day. Imagine how much nicer it would be if you could take that daily shower in your back yard, rooftop garden or any relaxing outdoor spot – without risking the potential embarrassment of your neighbors.

Oborain‘s pre-fabricated outdoor showers are elegant and surprisingly modest. Deep, rich woods and stainless steel combine to form showers that are every bit as sophisticated as those found indoors in lush bathrooms.

The outdoor stalls come with doors (for less secluded spots) or without them (for a beach shower experience) and optional dressing area, with or without a bench. Different sizes mean that the showers can fit into nearly any space – even those that are frustratingly tiny.

It is easy, of course, to imagine using an outdoor shower like these in a country setting. But imagine installing one in the midst of the city, listening to the sounds of traffic and civilization all around. Modular, pre-fabricated showers like these can be installed anywhere thanks to the manageable size of their components. They can be moved in a regular freight elevator, making them a viable option for rooftop gardens.
