Tessellating Black Blocks Create Free-Form Furniture Posted: 27 Jul 2013 10:00 AM PDT Design your own mathematically inspired free-form furniture with a series of identical lightweight five-sided units that come together in creative configurations. ‘Build’ connects with triangular fasteners to create storage furniture, tables or stools. Hook or stack them together, mounting them to a wall like a work of art or using them as a room partition. Created by Jack Godfrey Wood and Tom Ballhatchet for Movisi, Build is a modular furniture set that gives the user control over how the pieces ultimately look. Once assembled, the units are reminiscent of cells under a microscope. Stacked vertically, they create side tables with hidden storage. Build units are quick and easy to install, and don’t require any tools or even instructions. Made of expanded polypropylene, they’re light enough to avoid putting strain on the wall, but strong enough to sit on. They’re also 100% recyclable. The open units make a strong design statement on a wall of a contrasting color, while the closed units are perfect as tables, stools or individual transport boxes. They’re available in smooth black or textured white finishes. |
