Tiny Swedish Lofted Apartment With a Stunning Terrace Posted: 12 Dec 2013 08:00 AM PST In a total of 90 square meters, this Swedish apartment fits an entire stylish home into an impossibly tiny space. The narrow staircase just inside the entrance leads to a small but dramatic loft space, which is just the introduction to a modern and bohemian living area. A comfortable living area has been created using muted colors with little splashes of bright hues and whimsical details. A working fireplace brightens the main living area. Strategically placed skylights bring in natural light, while suspended bare-bulb fixtures add to a feeling of modern living. Even the kitchen and bathroom have a thoroughly modern edge, but they are not without their rustic charm: textured walls and scattered live plants smooth out the modern look. The living space, overall, feels so much brighter and larger than you might expect from such a small space. Easily the most striking feature of the apartment is the impressive terrace which opens up off of the kitchen area. Filled with a comfortable sitting area and tons of plants, the terrace seems like one of the coziest places to spend a relaxing evening. (via: Freshome) |
Floating Bookshelves Turn Books Into Unique Hanging Art Posted: 11 Dec 2013 08:00 PM PST Dedicated bibliophiles know that how you display your books is nearly as important as the type of books you read. Raw Edges, a Tel Aviv design studio comprised of Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, designed this striking bookcase called Bloom. The bookcase was inspired by a weaving loom, featuring many vertical cords adorned with movable black stoppers. These stoppers allow owners to display their books as though they were floating on the vertical axis, akin to a fantastical floating garden. Because the black stoppers can be moved to any position, users have the option of creating their very own hanging gardens in whatever configuration pleases their eyes. This bookshelf, more than perhaps any other, allows the book lover to translate the art of literature into visible, tangible art. |
Swinging, Suspended Stools Make a Fun Addition to a Bar Posted: 11 Dec 2013 02:00 PM PST Designer furniture group Duffy London has released a unique bar with seating for 24. Rather than the typical stationary stools, the Swing Bar features chairs hanging from thin wires from the bar’s frame. The lack of legs on the chairs contribute to a clean, uncluttered look around the bar. The powder-coated steel frame provides a stable and strong tether for the swinging chairs. We wonder just how wise it is to put moving chairs around a structure at which the primary activity is consuming alcohol. Barring any unexpected motion sickness, however, these swinging chairs might add a whimsical element to an evening out. |
