Glass Expansion Updates 1870s London Townhouse Posted: 21 Dec 2013 08:00 AM PST A classic 5-story London townhouse that hadn’t been updated since the 1980s got a fresh look and two extra rooms with a two-level glass expansion. The rectangular addition creates a light-filled connection between the kitchen, dining room and living room and a direct view of the garden. Giles Pike Architects revamped all five floors of the 6-bedroom 1870s townhouse. The glass addition not only provides extra space, but acts as a sunroom that brings natural light flooding into what were previously dark and small Victorian-era spaces. Another renovation elsewhere in the house added three stories of floor-to-ceiling windows with a door leading onto a rooftop terrace. The extension adds to the first floor media/game room and the second floor living space, and also includes a steel balcony and staircase. The rest of the home has gotten a crisp gray and white makeover that brightens the home without sacrificing any of its historical character. |
