UNITI iMac, an organizer and display stand for Apple gadgets Posted: 15 Jul 2014 07:00 AM PDT The Apple ecosystem is healthier than ever, and their products a great success, but that does sorta give us users one problem: organizing them becomes a pain, being that all of them are awesome. And there is where UNITI iMac comes in, to save the day. UNITI iMac is an organizer and display for those who work with Apple’s very own iMacs, and use their gadgets on top. It’s meant to charge the mobile devices (any kind of iPod, iPad, or iPhone, amongst others) while also letting users store away their mouse and keyboard when they are not required. The stand is designed to elevate your monitor and force users into a better posture, while providing a set of USB connectors within hand’s reach along with a headphone connection. Yet, the biggest feature are the two integrated charging stations that are way more than mere docks: these sets are almost universal, allowing a variety of gadgets, tablets and phones to be plugged without having to mess around with cables providing a clean, sleek look. UNITI is made of alluminium, and if you need to see it in your desk, you can support it through their Kickstarter campaign making a good enough pledge. Good luck! Be social! Limited Edition Frozen PS4 Launching July 16 to Japan Posted: 15 Jul 2014 06:00 AM PDT It might be the heart of summer, but a cold spell in the form of this limited edition PlayStation 4 console is heading soon to Japan.
Let it go? Oh, no, no, no. Apparently people won't "Let It Go" as the popular, often played to death tune from Disney’s animated musical of 2013 Frozen describes. Especially in Japan, where Sony will soon be releasing a limited edition PlayStation 4 system that features a Frozen-themed portrait of the movie's leading sisters, Elsa and Ana, engraved across the front of the console. It's a pretty classy etching – gold on black is a solid pairing, of course – but one to only be admired by Japanese shoppers when it goes on sale this July 16 for 42,980 yen (about $424 USD). While I don't have official word, I'm pretty sure this PS4 isn't arriving stateside. Hmm, I guess it was either getting this, or the white PS4 that comes with the PlayStation 4 Destiny bundle that ships later this fall. And if that bit of news makes you sadder than a snow queen living in a frigid, icy castle, well… then do I have a song for you! Be social! Heat up your pool for free thanks to solar power Posted: 15 Jul 2014 05:00 AM PDT Summer is just starting in the northern hemisphere, but once temperatures start going down again, you’ll need a little extra to keep swimming pools functional, and this might just be it. Swimming is one of the most well-balanced activities and really fun whether you need to get your working out on or just enjoy chilling in the water. Regardless of the virtues of the activity itself, it can get pretty hard to find the motivation to jump in during the coldest days of the year. And, because a pool heater is sort of out of the question if you’d rather spend your money in both practical and impractical gadgets, here’s a solution for you. This is the $38.95 Therma Spring Solar Mats. The Therma Spring Solar Mats work without being connected to any outlets nor pumps. Just by putting them on your pool, they will capture solar energy and use it to raise the pool temperature, while becoming sort of an insulating blanket during the night, helping the heat remain there. This works irregardless of the shape of your pool, but is at it’s best when it covers at least 70% of its surface. Via Coolest Gadgets Be social! Nvidia’s New Android Console Closes the Gap between PC and Mobile Gaming Posted: 14 Jul 2014 01:59 PM PDT When Nvidia launched the Shield Android gaming console last year, it made some ripples, as the device packed quite a few never-seen-before features. The next iteration is meant to be even better. The following information isn’t coming directly from Nvidia, but from BBC, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. The news network claims that the tech company is looking to tighten the knot between PC and mobile gaming by enabling people to stream PC games on the handheld console. Even though BBC’s sources are currently unknown, one thing’s certain: the new gaming machine developed by Nvidia will be based on one of the most powerful SoCs on the planet, the Tegra K1. In January, at CES, Nvidia told Jared Newman from PC World that GameStream will be implemented in tablets this year. With recent rumors of a Shield Tablet piling up, the possibility of the Shield handheld console’s successor being a tablet becomes more probable. A simple tablet wouldn’t impress the world, even if it were based on the Tegra K1 chipset. Xiaomi MiPad is already a beast, and it’s based on the very same SoC. Nvidia’s Shield Tablet could stand apart if it included some budget-priced external controller for gaming. In the absence of this controller, the device could still be used as a regular tablet, so no functionality would be lost there. Still, Nvidia’s products are not without downsides. The Shield could only stream games from PC if people had a GeForce GTX 650 or newer. In other words, owners of cards older than 2012, or even worse, owners of AMD graphics cards (no matter how new), could not stream games. It’s one thing to encourage gamers to buy products from the same manufacturer, but limiting the functionality so drastically could’ve meant game over for Nvidia. On top of that, Nvidia Shield’s initial price of $300 (that was prior to the $100 price cut) put it quite close to the $400 PS4. Now I’m not sure about your preferences, but I’d gladly give up on mobile gaming for such a gaming beast that is Sony’s PlayStation 4. It remains to be seen what form factor Nvidia will adopt for its next gaming machine. The price will definitely be a factor that will attract or deter gamers. Be social! iPhone 6 Shows Up on Amazon Japan, Specs and Launch Date Are Revealed Posted: 14 Jul 2014 01:34 PM PDT Amazon Japan jumped the gun and displayed some vital information about the iPhone 6. Most probably, this move was coordinated by Apple in order to build some excitement months before the official launch. While there are some who think that Amazon Japan actually spilled the beans and revealed these details by mistake (which wouldn’t be the first time, as the e-tailer also unveiled the launch date of Mass Effect 4 recently), others (me included) consider this nothing more than a PR stunt. According to Amazon.jp, iPhone 6 is supposed to cost 139,999 Japanese Yen (the equivalent of $1378). At such a steep price, it had better pack some alien technology, as otherwise it’s criminally unjustified. Just in case you’re impressed by that price, you should know that it’s for the 4.7-inch 64GB model. The other version, measuring 5.5-inch in diagonal, is meant to be even more expensive. The dimensions of the iPhone 6 have also been revealed by Amazon Japan. At 130 x 65 x 7mm, and 113g, the next iPhone is slimmer than the previous generation. As far as the launch date is concerned, Amazon.jp claims that we’ll get to see the iPhone 6 on September 30. For some, it doesn’t really matter if these leaks are true or not, as their reaction is a long yawn. Even T3 is afraid that Apple’s keynote from this fall might be a yawnfest. After all, there’s not much left to learn about the 4.7″ iPhone 6. It will undoubtedly come with iOS6, so this won’t be a surprise, either. The only new element that Apple could come up with would be the iWatch, but some sources claim that this won’t enter production sooner than November. In this context, there’s not much to keep people on the edge of their seats. If you’re one of my regular readers, you already know that I’d take an Android flagship over the latest iPhone any day of the week, regardless of how “innovative” and “revolutionary” Apple’s product claims to be. I love it how Apple fanboys try to convince the world not to post bad comments on GSMArena if they don’t like the iPhone 6. I mean, what’s there not to like about the current generation? The small screen, the fingerprint sensor that was hacked in no-time by German hackers, or the ugly flat interface? Neah, the iSheep might be right, the iPhone is the ultimate mobile device!
