Amazon slashes the price of the Fire Phone: now $0.99 USD

Amazon’s Fire Phone, their own, unique smartphone that used to retail for $199 USD has received the most aggressive price cut in recent memory: it is $0.99 USD now.

The Fire Phone was released just 2 months ago, time after which Amazon decided to slash its price down to $0.99 USD. The rumor mill claims this might be because of sluggish sales.

The Fire Phone is not too shabby for its former price: it came with a 32-gigabyte HDD, 2 GB of ram, Android OS, moderately decent processor and a vibrant screen. Furthermore, it has a great amount of cross-functionalities with other Amazon gadgets. The 64-gigabyte version, which used to cost $299 will go down to the more rational $99 USD, which still is 66% off.

Critics claimed the phone didn’t offer anything unique that made it stand out from the likes of the Galaxy, iPhone or Nexus, but no one can deny it was a competent machine with enough personality to be considered as an alternative to these more mainstream devices.

The cheap, 99-cent version of the Fire phone will require a 2 year contract to work, but will give users a free year of Amazon Prime for users’ TV watching and fast-shipping needs, although this is a limited-time offer.

Flux Capacitor USB car charger turns your ride into a time machine

While your car might not be capable of time travel, you can sure make it seem a prop of 1985, the year Back to the Future was released. All you need is your credit card, and knowing where to look.

What started out as a joke by the ThinkGeek team has now become a reality as Flux Capacitor USB Car Chargers are set to arrive later this month for $25. The unit displays two USB ports with 2.1-amps potency to recharge your gadgets and gear as you drive. Time traveling might come further down the line, but keeping your gadgets at full battery is equally important, wouldn’t you say?

The Flux Capacitor just needs to be plugged into what used to be a lighter in the time everyone smoked (what the kids call a power port nowadays), and just like that, will provide enough power to recharge up to two tablets simultaneously. Not bad at all.

Sony’s New Line of Xperia Smartphones/Tablets Feature PS4 Remote Play

The new Xeperia Z3 line will let owners connect to their PlayStation 4s for Remote Play functionality.

The Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact is the latest line of smartphones and tablets soon to be introduced in the fall from Sony. But besides the Z3 family's stunning looks and impressively thin design, all three carry with it an interesting distinction that furthers the PlayStation reach throughout Sony itself.

Remote Play, one of the brightest selling points for the PlayStation Vita (although, it surely doesn't help sell that many units in the first place sadly), which allows owners to stream and play PlayStation 4 games away from the console through a Wi-Fi connection, will be coming to the Xperia Z3 line in November.

Users will be able to control games through Remote play either by touchscreen methods or through DualShock4 controllers, which can be wirelessly synced to any of the aforementioned mobile devices. There's also the GCM10 Game Control Mount that Sony is advertising along with this news, which can hold together a DualShock4 and a Z3 device in one convenient portable manner.

With now Remote Play and PlayStation Now, another streaming avenue for gaming content, Sony seems intent to ride the success of their PlayStation 4 platform as a catalyst to pull the company out of their recent financial woes. Already, the PS4 has pulled in over 10 million units sold worldwide, so it might be a smart course of action on their part.

As for the Xeperia Z3 line – the Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact – Sony hasn't yet announced an official release date for them, but from industry sources, many peg the consumer electronics giant to release the new product family sometime in October.

Robot Couch will transport you anywhere

What started out as a joke became a reality: this is literally couch surfing, a moving couch that can take you around the city.

UNSW (Univeristy of South New Wales) students in Australia came up with quite a concept: a robotic couch that can become your mean of transportation by moving on its own, while being controller by an Xbox 360 gamepad. The project came from the minds of Steph McArthur and Will Andrew, both engineering students who came up with the project as a joke. The project has received several successful test runs, and has since then been set to be an attraction at UNSW’s Open Day.

The couch uses electric scooter motors to drive the wheels, which are connected to a central controller to regulate the speed, also, if the video above serves as reference, it can be quite fast, too. Are we ready to replace our cars yet? Apparently, the students were so inspired by this idea that now they want to create a robotic fridge. Well, they need to make that happen, the kitchen is way too far away from our living rooms and bedrooms anyways.
