LEGO to Showcase New Batmobile at SD Comic-Con

Posted: 01 Jul 2015 11:14 AM PDT

New Lego Batmobile

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice won’t be out until March 23, 2016, but playing with the new LEGO Batmobile could make time run faster, for some.

Batman standing right next to his newly redesigned Batmobile was one of the first images with Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader. In that context, it makes perfect sense for LEGO to promote the new Batmobile in a similar way.

The new Batmobile “includes 306 pieces, two stud shooters and opening doors, a new Batman outfit deco, two additional unnamed characters and an additional vehicle,” reports The Wall Street Journal.

You’re free to think of the new Batmobile as the LEGO equivalent of a movie’s trailer. You’ll get to see it at Comic-Con, in San Diego, but you won’t get to fully enjoy it until January 1, 2016, when Batman’s badass vehicle will hit the shelves, bearing a price tag of $29.99.

It’ll be interesting to see who the two unnamed characters are, but I’d go out on a limb and say that one’s Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, and the other one is Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. There are several other options, considering that these two are not the only superheroes to star in Dawn of Justice, and Luthor definitely won’t be the only villain.

If you ask me, I think that the new Batmobile is only the beginning. LEGO wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) miss such an opportunity to refresh its product line, so there are great chances that we’ll also get to see something from Superman’s environment, and maybe even something related to the villains. Or was Superman the villain? We’ll just have to wait until July 9, when the Danish company will unveil Dark Knight’s new ride at San Diego Comic-Con International.

I’m going to be frank with you and say that The Dark Knight Rises was a joke of a movie, not only because of the story and Bane’s ridiculous voice, but also because of how the scenes were edited, and how Inception-esque the soundtrack sounded. That being said, I have high hopes for Zack Snyder’s new movie. Snyder has already directed several adaptations of comics for the big screen, and even though he wasn’t involved in writing the script (as was the case with the Nolan brothers), some people seem to trust the faith of the Justice League and Suicide Squad into his hands.

SipSup Social Drinking Glass Saves the Party’s Best Moments

SipSup Social Drinking Glass 01

With the launch of the world’s first social drinking glass, connected glassware is about to become a thing. SipSup won’t share any details about the beverage you’re enjoying, but it will save photos from the attendees’ smartphones.

Mind you, SipSup doesn’t only store the photos, but it also facilitates sharing them to other smartphones. On top of that, the social drinking glass (as its Slovenian developers like to call it) doubles as a photo album, so you can watch the party’s best moments even if your friends are long gone.

The social drinking glass may have been designed by the eponymous startup, but it’s Slovenian glassworks company Steklarna Hrastnik who is manufacturing it. The quality is attested by a Vitrux certificate that guarantees that SipSup is dishwasher safe up to 3,000 times.

I only wish the glass came in different sizes. I’m sure that’s possible, but probably the developers wanted to see first how beer and juice lovers feel about SipSup. I definitely wouldn’t recommend drinking wine or spirits in such a high-capacity glass. After all, this social glass is only dishwasher safe, not shatterproof, something that people might want to test after ingesting such alcoholic drinks.

Since it is a connected device we’re talking about, it has to come with a companion app. According to the developers, the app will be available for both Android and iOS devices (it looks like Windows Phone users are not getting any love, but given the market share of that mobile OS, it’s quite understandable). As for how the glasses connected to smartphones, NFC and visual IDs were used.

SipSup is currently the subject of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, where its developers are looking to raise $30,000, so that the connected drinking glass makes the jump from a concept to mass production. At the time of writing, backers had pledged $2,104, but there were 31 more days to go, and with some proper support, SipSup could become a reality. The awards range from virtual cheers to SipSup glasses (which cost $22 or $40 for early birds, and $25 or $50 for regular backers, depending on whether you want one or two glasses), to ten customized glasses and a trip to Slovenia to meet the team behind all of this. For that you’d have to spend $4K and get your plane tickets.

WhatsApp Android: search all your conversations simultaneously

WhatsApp Android

A much requested feature is coming on one of the next Whatsapp updates. The new version of WhatsApp for Android will let users search in all conversations simultaneously.

A while and a few updates ago Whatsapp enabled an option to allow users to track data or specific keywords in any given conversation, but now, according to the website Android Police, we’ll be able to check several conversations simultaneously. This new feature will, for example, allow you to search the name of a dish in a restaurant that a friend mentioned once in conversation, or the phone number of someone sent via WhatsApp that we never added to our contacts, all without having to enter any specific conversation.

Current versions of the app do not feature this tool, but it is expected it will eventually show up in the very next update. Another rumor, though, claims  that just like with calls, it might show up for some users before others, and then roll to everyone.

This is not the only bit of news from the Whatsapp world, as very recently Windows Phone users were also able to join the rest of the world with free calls, which was still pending. This will allow Windows users to do phone calls via WiFi or 3G, just like Android and iOS users have already been doing for a couple months now.
