When you think ‘modular cabin,’ you probably envision one of those flimsy kits that come in boxes at the hardware store which, when assembled, are little more than slightly oversized sheds. ‘Noa,’ a prefab cabin design by Estonian designer Jaanus Orgusaar, most definitely doesn’t fit into that characterization. The six-sided structure seems to change shape depending on the angle from which you view it.

This cabin is based on the shape of a rhombic dodecahedron, which is a complex polyhedron with twelve identical rhombic faces. When built into a three-dimensional shape and placed on three stilts, the design has a funhouse effect, seeming to float on air.

From the inside, the multitude of angled walls and hexagonal floor make the cabin feel round and surprisingly spacious. While the lines of the exterior walls zigzag up and down, the floor of the interior is slightly elevated to make everything feel stable and cozy.

This geometric modern cabin design results in a stronger-than-average modular structure that can be set side-by-side with additional modules to create a larger space. Made of sustainable materials, the home is a high-quality yet low-cost woodland getaway for the architect’s family.
