You find greatness in the weirdest places, and an example of that is this random stranger’s hand on the Internet, displaying sigils from the hit show Game of Thrones as nail art.

What you’re seeing here is what your hands can potentially look like if you use the same decals as blogger Break Rules Not Nails. These are house sigils from Game of Thrones, displaying some of the most popular houses out there (in the pic, Greyjoy, Stark, Lannister and Baratheon. Targaryen is on the thumb).

Get Your Fix of Nicotine and Phone Calls with This Bluetooth e-Cigarette

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 05:30 AM PST

Bluetooth e-Cigarette

Gadgets that combine multiple functions are not really new, but who would have thought that the world could someday use an e-cigarette to smoke, answer calls and stream music?

Not long ago, I wrote about a commercially available electronic hookah built inside a Nintendo Gamecube case. The following e-cigarette, however, is even more technologically advanced, sign that people puffing on these kind of devices are often getting bored and would like to do something more, thus transcending from their simple state of nicotine addicts. Still, the idea of placing or answering calls using a cigarette seems quite far fetched, and yet, Supersmoker didn’t step back from making the world’s first musical cell phone cigarette.

As the manufacturer says on its website, “Never seen before! An electronic cigarette with Bluetooth functionality. When you’re connected to a phone, you can make and receive calls on the e-cigarette while you are smoking! Or listen to your favorite tracks from your phone via the e-cigarette with built-in speaker!”

Supersmoker Bluetooth comes with an integrated speaker and microphone. While this combo can be used instead of Bluetooth headset to place and receive calls, the speaker itself can also be used for streaming music from a smartphone via the same wireless technology. The product is said to work will all smartphones and tablets that feature Bluetooth connectivity, regardless of the version.

Have you ever wanted to play a pipe? Well, you couldn’t have asked for a better product. The manufacturer even explains how the volume buttons of the Supersmoker Bluetooth e-cigarette are working: “Go to the playlist on your phone and choose the track you want to listen to. Press play and the sound will be played via the built-in microphone on the back of the battery. You can regulate the volume using the buttons [+] and [-]. If you receive a call when you are listening to music, it will automatically stop so that you can take the call. Once you have finished your call, the music will continue.”

Interested in buying Supersmoker Bluetooth? Well, it can be yours for the humble price of 79.95 euros (approximately $110). The manufacturer is already taking orders for Supersmoker Bluetooth, but shipping to US might be expensive.

Cthulhu Lamp: Cthulhu Brightens Up A Room

You might be surprised when you find that the best lamp piece for a room comes in the form of the cosmic entity of Cthulhu, the Elder One.

There’s a man behind the madness, and he goes by Karl Dupéré-Richer… at least, that’s the closest the he human vocal apparatus can come to reproducing the syllables of his name. He created it using "the back of one PVC patio chair, 14 chair feet, one flowerpot, one umbrella base, two bike tires, 30 cans, many pieces of PVC pipes, one acrylic globe light, some car body parts, a few pieces of garden hose and about 1,000 devoured human souls." We believe the last part, definitely.

Canonical to Showcase the First Ubuntu Phone at MWC

Posted: 20 Feb 2014 04:30 AM PST

Ubuntu Smartphone

The software development company best known for its Debian-based Linux operating system Ubuntu respected the promise it made last year, and announced that it would launch the first Ubuntu phone at the Mobile World Congress, next week.

Canonical failed to raise the funds for its ambitious Ubuntu Edge on Indiegogo last year, but that didn’t stop the British company from pursuing its dreams. They promised that they would make Ubuntu phones in 2014, and next week we’re going to see the first results. Smartphones running Ubuntu Touch will be made by Meizu, a pretty popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer, as well as by BQ, Spain’s second largest manufacturer of unlocked smartphones.

Images of a Meizu smartphone running what was believed to be Ubuntu Touch were leaked a few weeks ago, and the fact that Canonical now confirmed that the Chinese manufacturer will be making one of the Ubuntu phones stresses the authenticity of the leaks. Unlike Mozilla and its Firefox OS, Canonical wants to have a different approach with Ubuntu Touch smartphones. Firefox OS devices are low-end, thus far, but Canonical wants to take on Android devices directly, so it announced that the Ubuntu phones will be mid-range and high-end devices capable of satisfying the needs of the ones looking for performance.

Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Canonical, stated in an interview with CNet that “While we’re happy to work with household names, we want to be involved with partners for whom we can be a significant part of their story, rather than being appended to the more complicated story of other brands.”

Meizu only makes one line of smartphones, MX3 being the most recent and probably the most popular. BQ, on the other hand, makes Android smartphones, tablets and even e-book readers, but Canonical emphasized how important it is that the Spanish manufacturer has experience in making dual-SIM phones, suggesting that the Ubuntu ones may come with such a feature.

The way I see it, the only problem Canonical might have is the app ecosystem. There are plenty of apps for the desktop version of Ubuntu, but convincing the developers to port them to mobile devices may not be very simple. What I’m saying is that I’m afraid that the Ubuntu phones will suffer the same fate as the ones running Windows Phone.

New Galaxy Will Have a Sharper, Bigger Display

The new Samsung smartphone will have a larger 5.2-inch screen and a sharper display than the current Galaxy S4, according to what sources have been telling Bloombreg.

The new phone will include an improve battery and camera will be released about the same time as an upgraded Galaxy Gear smartwatch, but the company has yet to reveal an official release date yet.

Galaxy S5

According to the same sources, Samsung might be selling the new phone for less than previous models in the S series after encouragement by at least one wireless carrier.

The release of the next phone from the world’s biggest cellphone makers will probably be named S5. The sales of its predecessor, the S4, have fallen short of expectations.

According to Roberta Cozza, an analyst at Gartner Inc, Better specs don't cut it. They need to find a way to get users to pick the Samsung brand across different types of devices to better compete with Apple.

Samsunsg’s main competition in the premium smartphone market has been with Apple, but also with a plethora of Chinese competitors selling devices for as little as $100.
