Co-Opted: Green Rooftop Deck atop Shared Living Structure Posted: 12 Jun 2012 10:00 AM PDT [ Filed under Patios & Decks & in the Interiors category ] In a densely-packed neighborhood of Copenhagen sits a rather lovely old co-op with plenty of windows and nice views for its residences, but no communal garden. The owners thus got together and formed a plan, each contributing some of their roof space toward the creation of little lawn and playground zone – conventional in some ways, but certainly not in terms of its altitude. JDS architects created bridges, stairs, a deck and even a grass-seeded slope to make the addition look and work like any patio on the ground might, also using fence-like railings to give reinforce the earth-in-the-sky aesthetic. Light & Heavy: Desk Supported by Both Blocks & Balloons Posted: 11 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT [ Filed under Furniture & in the Desks category ] Reception desks are notoriously, well, businesslike – and some probably should be. But surely some can be a bit more interesting, providing a little entertainment while you wait. That is the idea behind this creative work station by Boys and Girls (images by Liam Murphy), held up by giant-sized Jenga pieces on the one side and apparently (though not really) suspended from a cluster of colorful balloons on the other. Once the agency had a LEGO boardroom table (featured in the video above), they found the bar was set too high to stick with a simple reception-area desk. Thus, “Plans were drawn, crayons sharpened and collaborators consulted to come up with a reception desk that would put "small and routine" in its place for once and for all. This is the result of months of planning and some fairly heavy scientific research.” [ Filed under Furniture & in the Desks category ] [ Dornob | Archives | Categories | Privacy | TOS ] |
