17-Year-Old Makes Her Own Prom Dress Out of Old Homework Posted: 07 Jun 2012 04:36 AM PDT Just in case you needed more proof that you don’t actually need designer labels to attract attention, here’s the story of Kara Koskowich, who created her prom dress out of old homework. After graduation, most students never want to look at homework again, but 17-year-old Kara Koskowich actually decided to look good IN it, by making a unique prom dress out of her old math homework. "For me, it’s not a big, spend your money, you have to look this nice, you have to fit into this mould of grad," the Canadian girl told CBC, so she decided on a more creative and far less expensive alternative to the classic prom dress. So instead of going window shopping, Kara started thinking about what would make a really interesting dress for prom. And although she had made up her mind since March, and even started working on the dress back then, she only barely managed to finish it in time for the big night. ”I did most of it the last week because I’m that kind of person. I procrastinate,” Kara said. Photo: CBC.ca Kara Koskowich made her stunning prom dress out of 75 pages of her old math homework, and complemented it with a nice belt made of colored post-its. The resourceful student decided on math because she says “it’s the most intricate to look at”, and help her achieve that explosion-like pattern. She spent days cutting, sewing, gluing and eventually tailoring the prom dress exclusively out of sheets of paper. But the hard work paid off, both for her and her friend Dorothy Graham, who made her dress out of shopping bags, as theirs were the most admired garments at prom. It was actually funny because everyone was wearing these elegant dresses, and we’re in dresses that cost nothing, and we were the most popular people there,” Dorothy said.
Well done girls! And they aren’t the only ones who thought about getting creative with their prom dresses. In fact we’ve featured a few of the most original prom outfits in history right here, on Oddity Central. Check out the duct tape costumes of Stuck at Prom, a beautiful dress made from candy wrappers, and another one made from pop tabs. 17-Year-Old Makes Her Own Prom Dress Out of Old Homework was originally posted at OddityCentral.com |
Woman Eats 30,000 Calories a Day to Become the World’s Biggest Bride Posted: 07 Jun 2012 03:26 AM PDT Susanne Eman weighs a staggering 540lbs (245kg) and unlike other brides-to-be, she actually wants to put on a lot more weight. To fulfill her bizarre goal of getting fatter for her wedding, Susanne is currently eating about 30,000 calories per day. The 33-year-old, from Arizona, first made news headlines last year, when stories of her goal of reaching 1,600lbs appeared on the Internet and in various tabloids. Everyone was shocked that someone would actually want to become the world’s fattest person, and spend a small fortune in the process. Back then, Susanne revealed that she and her two boys, Gabriel, 16, and Brendin, 12, visit the supermarket and spend about eight hours filling six shopping carts with all kinds of foods. In order to reach the 800lbs-mark she had set for the end of 2011, the overweight single mom guzzled down about 20,000 calories a day. She didn’t reach her goal, but now the dedicated weight-gainer is getting married, and upped her daily intake to 30,000 calories, in order to become the world’s biggest bride. Photo: Inside Edition video caption While most other brides-to-be would go to any lengths to lose fat before their weddings, Susanne Eman would give anything to gain weight faster, so she can be the proud wearer of the world’s largest wedding dress. Her tailor already needs about 45 feet of fabric to make a gown that would actually fit Eman, but she plans to get even bigger in time for the big event. She’s marrying Parker Clack, a 35-year-old chef she met over the Internet. Susanne says they’re a match made in heaven, because Parker loves to cook and she loves to eat. Evidently, he prefers larger women and doesn’t have a problem with her goal of reaching over 700 pounds in weight. Photo: Inside Edition video caption But how does one come up with such a strange goal? Suzanne was never really a slim person, but she realized she was losing the battle against weight-gain two years ago. She had already reached 490lbs, but noticed this only made her more attractive to some men, which gave her a big confidence boost. So she decided to make it her life’s goal to set new records using her weight. She has given herself 10 years to reach the 1600lbs mark. She also began modeling for Super Size Big Beautiful Women’ (SSBBWs) sites and has been causing quite a stir with her curves. Dr Oz Show video caption Seamstress Judee, from Paradise Fabrics in Phoenix, Arizona, is currently working on Susanne’s wedding dress, and after measuring the future bride’s waist decided she needs 45 feet of fabric. The dress is almost complete, but is so heavy it requires three people to carry it and takes half an hour to lace up at the back. ’I think she looks really beautiful in it. The dress turned out amazing,’ Suzanne’s sister Cassie said. Although she was disappointed to find out she only weighs around 540lbs, far from her original goal, the super-size woman is determined to become the world’s biggest bride and stuffs herself with over 30,000 calories per day.
Doctors have warned Suzanne about pursuing her bizarre goal, but she claims she exercises every day, to keep her muscles in shape so they can sustain her increasing weight, takes her blood pressure weekly and plans to contact her doctor in case anything goes wrong. 'I want to break the stigma that being fat is a bad thing,' she said. 'I remind other fat people that it is OK for them to be that way. The message I want to get across is for people to accept others for who they are.' The following video reveals Susanne Eman’s daily menu in preparation for her wedding:

ScreamBody – The Portable Organ That Lets You Scream Without Disturbing Anyone Posted: 07 Jun 2012 01:38 AM PDT Invented by MIT’s Kelly Dobson, the ScreamBody is an ingenious device that allows you to let out all your rage and frustration without having to worry about it being socially inappropriate. As a kid, I watched a lot of cartoons where characters would just scream inside a paper bag, because they couldn’t let out their pain at that exact time, and just “unload” all the screaming later. I remember wishing something like that existed in real life. As it turns out, it actually does, and it’s called a ScreamBody. Invented back in the mid 2000′s, by former MIT student Kelly Dobson, this strange-looking piece of equipment is actually a portable space for screaming that contains all of your loudly-expressed emotions and releases them at a later time. Exactly like they did in those cartoons I liked so much. It might sound like a stupid invention, and I admit it even looks pretty strange, but once you think about it, the ScreamBody is a pretty useful invention. Didn’t you ever find yourself in a situation where you just wanted to scream as loudly as possible, but you couldn’t because you were in a situation where it would have been perceived as inappropriate? I know I have, but with the ScreamBody you don’t have to worry about freaking people out or them calling the cops on you. All you have to do is let out your scream inside the portable device and it’s completely silenced, but also recorded for later release, when and where you chose to do it. Why keep all that rage in and unleash it on baby seals or cute puppies, when you can just let it out in a healthy way? The ScreamBody is made of open-cell polyurethane foam and latex, which act to absorb and contain the sound of screaming. On the outside, it features two conductor switches, one for recording and one for playing back the sound. The biggest downside of this ingenious invention is its shape. Something this weird-looking is sure to attract attention, and even if they don’t hear your scream, most people are probably still going to think you’re a weirdo.
Like many others, I’ve been waiting for something like ScreamBody all my life, but apart from the video Karen made a few years ago, we haven’t heard any news about it. Hopefully, the recent buzz around it will convince her it’s something worth pursuing further. via Neatorama ScreamBody – The Portable Organ That Lets You Scream Without Disturbing Anyone was originally posted at OddityCentral.com |
