Folding furniture conjures dull images of cheap aluminum legs as easy-to-rip faded vinyl surfaces – something you store out of sight because, frankly, it is unsightly and for emergency use only at large gatherings.

Not so with these pieces by Nils Federking, a German designer who aims to add a touch of style to simple fold-out table and chair designs that could also be stored openly thanks to their sleek appearance.

When deployed, they look like any other nice and simple dining room furniture objects, and with a few delightfully easy, one-person maneuvers they can be made flat yet still stand (rather than needing to be leaned).
