Light-Filled Writer’s Residence: Inspiring Minimalist Abode Posted: 29 Apr 2014 08:00 AM PDT Is creativity affected by your surroundings? If so, the House of Writing designed by blank studio is sure to inspire a forest of creativity. Nestled in a group of tall columns that resemble trees, the residence is clad in transparent and translucent glass as well as a perforated steel panel that casts beautiful shapes of light inside. The entry of the residence is at ground level. This ground floor houses the kitchen, restroom, and dining area. The punctured steel panels envelop the interior deck, perhaps providing the resident writer with inspiration from the lovely natural surroundings. The other end of the home floats above the ground on columns within the forest of exterior columns, giving it a sense of airiness which is only emphasized by its large windows and extensive use of different types of glass. Inside, a contrast of naturally-patterned light and dark wood complement the perforated metal railings of the staircase that leads up to the writer’s office. The second-level writer’s office is a serene, comfortable place in which to pen great masterpieces. The windows here are opaque, allowing abundant natural light to enter the room but reducing the distractions that working in front of a window will inevitably cause. (via: designboom) |
Speedy Microwave Espresso Maker is Surprisingly Sophisticated Posted: 28 Apr 2014 06:00 PM PDT There are plenty of coffee purists who will tell you that you need fancy equipment and lots of practice to make the perfect cup of espresso. While that may or may not be true, most of us aren’t looking for the perfect cup – we just want that jolt of delicious, delicious caffeine as quickly as possible. Piamo is just the gadget to give it to you. Piamo needs nothing more than water, coffee – either ground or in a pouch – and a microwave. The espresso maker consists of a water chamber, filter, filter holder, and cute little espresso cup. Fill up the water chamber with water, place the coffee into the filter, and flip it upside down. Attach the assembly to the cup and stick it in the microwave. In just 30 seconds, out comes a piping hot cup of espresso. While it might not seem like a 30-second microwave espresso would be worth drinking, the creators of the Piamo say that it makes delicious espresso. If nothing else, it’s small enough to keep in your desk drawer at work so you can get over that mid-morning slump quickly. ... |
Design Series Combines Luxury Furniture + Fun Electronics Posted: 28 Apr 2014 02:00 PM PDT Furniture and technology often interact, but it isn’t entirely common to see the two integrated into one piece. Designers Claudio Larcher, Filippo Protasoni and Simone Simonelli, along with companies Odone Marmi and Lilea Design brought technology and furniture design together in a six-piece series they call Clique. At the top of the page, Rochetto is a table that has a removable power strip. The power strip can be moved far away from the table thanks to the long cord which wraps around the base of the table. Just above is Echo, a small table with an integrated bookshelf that also includes a Bluetooth speaker made of marble that looks a lot like the iconic Apple earbud. This lovely tiny kitchen is known simply as K. Its top includes an induction cooking surface and a dock which holds and charges your tablet as you cook, letting you use the computer for entertainment or looking up recipes. Heatty is a fun fan heater made of marble; its top features a series of pegs, presumably for hanging up coats, bags, or maybe even wet clothing that the Heatty can dry. Crimmy looks kind of like a sauna heater, but it is actually an ultrasonic humidifier. The marble body of the humidifier adds a definite touch of classiness to the piece, making it look like an upscale table rather than a home appliance. Refill is an interesting part of this furniture series. It is meant as seating for public places, such as doctor’s waiting rooms. The large cushioned seating areas are complemented by several trays that double as wireless chargers. |
