Fangamer Introduces Ace Attorney Objection! T-Shirt

Ace Attorney Objection T Shirt by Maximo Lorenzo Fangamer image 1

Be guilty of looking awesome with this Ace Attorney Objection! t-shirt.

When it comes to the celebration of video games through loveable clothing, one of the best in the business is Fangamer. Allow me to point you to exhibit A, a recent addition to their collection of wares that should delight fans of Ace Attorney.

It's a new t-shirt centered upon the adventure game's court-stopping catch phrase. Designed by Maximo Lorenzo, Fangamer's Objection! t-shirt packs in as much love for Ace Attorney series and features a silhouette of that brilliant sleuth Phoenix Wright. Paired with the right pair of pants (I’m a shorts kind of guy myself), and you've got yourself a killer look.

As with most of their apparel, Fangamer sometimes pack in a little bonus with every item. Their cool like that. And with the Objection! t-shirt, its purchase comes with a 1" pin that's a replica of the one Phoenix Wright wears. Pretty snazzy, but not legal proof that you can just walk into any courtroom and start being a lawyer. My imaginary lawyer advises against that.

The Objection! t-shirt and the pin can be yours right now for $23 USD.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Fingerprint Scanner Hacked In 4 Days

Posted: 18 Apr 2014 05:00 AM PDT

Samsung Galaxy S5

Despite being one of the most talked about features on the phone, the Samsung Galaxy S5's fingerprint scanner has been hacked after just 4 days on sale.

These days, almost everything is digital. From your medical records, your taxes and likely a run down of everything you've ordered online in the past 6 months (thank you Amazon!) it's all ther, in the cloud, stored on a server ready to be delivered to your screens as and when you need it. After you've put in an alphanumerical password, that is. It almost seems too simplistic, doesn't it? That all of this information about us, sensitive and mundane data stored in equal measure, can be accessed with a few taps on a keyboard and it especially seems too simplistic given that the strength of these passwords is on shaky ground right now (Heartbleed, anyone?) But with biological passwords such as fingerprint unlocks being available, it's concerning then that the Samsung Galaxy S5's fingerprint scanner has just been hacked in impressive time.

The 'hackers' responsible for this are actually an elite team of security specialists from the German security firm SRLabs', so they certainly know their way around a lockscreen or two. Hoping to test out the device's much touted fingerprint scanner, they gathered several resources, including a Samsung Galaxy S5, another smartphone with a camera (used for taking photos) some lab equipment and just over $250 worth of materials. To conduct the experiment, first they had someone use the Samsung Galaxy S5's fingerprint scanner, leaving a visible print on the device after using it (this is key, which I'll explain in a minute), then they took a photo of it before using said photo (along with that lab equipment) to create a PCB mould of the print. Then, using the mould they were able to swipe it on the phone and unlock it without the finger that the original print came from.

While the fact that it took just 4 days for the Samsung Galaxy S5 fingerprint scanner to be hacked may give more than a fair few a reason to shout that the iPhone 5S' rival fingerprint scanner is clearly superior, it's also key to note it took less time for the scanner on the Apple device to be hacked (it actually took less than 48 hours) than that of Samsung's flagship device. Too, the security concerns, while concerning, are less to be worried about than as being reported. For one, if the user of the phone had have just wiped off the finger print from the screen, SRLabs' experiment wouldn’t have worked. In addition to this, those worried that the hacking of the S5's fingerprint scanner (which allows you to lock and access PayPal accounts) suddenly means that their money is in jeopardy needn't be so concerned as a statement released by PayPal explained that "The scan unlocks a secure cryptographic key that serves as a password replacement for the phone. We can simply deactivate the key from a lost or stolen device, and you can create a new one." whilst also pointing out that all transactions are covering by their buyer protection policy, so if all else fails, you can just cancel whatever payment the hacker is made and all will be relatively well.

We'll keep you posted once we know more.

Sony Sold 7 Million Playstation 4 Consoles in Less than Half a Year

Posted: 17 Apr 2014 01:15 PM PDT

PS4

Since last November, when Sony launched Playstation 4, the Japanese company’s video game console sold like hotcakes (or is it the other way around?), hitting milestone after milestone.

A month after Sony announced that it had sold 6 million PS4 consoles, another important milestone is hit in the form of 7 million sales. Obviously, the Xbox One is not doing so well, but more on that soon. The Japanese company also announced that it sold 20.5 million copies of PS4 software (as in games) worldwide, and this is yet another impressive achievement from them.

Andrew House, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, stated in a press release that “The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers, by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage.”

Sony currently sells the PS4 in 72 countries, its homeland being one of the most important markets. Just to put things into perspective, it took Sony less than 10 days to sell 370,000 units in Japan. From this point of view, Microsoft and its Xbox One are lacking, as the Redmond tech giant’s video game console is nowhere near as widely available.

The fact that Microsoft bundled hit game Titanfall with its Xbox One at no additional cost definitely had a major impact on the sales of this console. More than that, British retailers cut the price of the bundle even more, thus making the PS4 less attractive. In the end, it looks like it’s certain games that determine people to pick Xbox One over PS4 and vice versa.

All these numbers, despite being very impressive, didn’t affect Sony’s stock price that much. So why did Sony want to release sales figures now? Well, in February the Japanese company’s revenue generated by the PS4 sales in the US beat Microsoft’s by an inch, and that’s a feat, considering that the Xbox One has a higher price tag.

Come September, when the Xbox One gets launched in 26 more countries, Sony will have to struggle even harder the top position, especially since some of these countries are key markets in Europe, Middle East and Asia, including Israel, UAE, Korea and Japan.

Chrome Remote Desktop for Android Is Now Available

Posted: 17 Apr 2014 12:35 PM PDT

Chrome Remote Desktop 2

There are plenty of remote desktop apps that enable us to access files on our home computers while on the run, but a free mobile solution coming from Google can only be appreciated.

TeamViewer represented one of the best solutions for remote assistance until Google launched its Chrome Remote Desktop. The personal version of TeamViewer is available for free, not to mention that there also is a mobile app for whoever wants to transfer files or offer remote assistance. So, in this context, why would anyone want to use Google’s product? Well, Chrome Remote Desktop is easier to use than its counterparts, and on top of that, it’s free for private and corporate use.

Husain Bengali, Remotely Controlled Product Manager, explained in a blog post how Chrome Remote Desktop for Android could simplify our lives:

“Have you ever been out and about, and urgently needed to access a file that’s sitting on your home computer? Since 2011, Chrome Remote Desktop has let you remotely access your machine from another laptop or computer in a free, easy and secure way. And now, with the release of the Chrome Remote Desktop app for Android, we’re making it possible for you to do the same thing from your Android device.”

Bengali also provided details on how to run this setup: “If you haven’t used Chrome Remote Desktop in the past, you can get started by enabling your Windows or Mac machine for remote access through the Chrome Web Store app. Next, simply launch the Android app on your phone or tablet, tap on the computer’s name and start using your remote machine as if you were sitting right in front of it.”

Support for Linux users is coming soon, so from this point of view, there’s no difference between the desktop and the mobile apps. Access is gained using the same old method, namely a PIN of at least four numbers. As always, you have to be careful not to write the code down and misplace it, but that somehow goes without saying. After all, someone gaining access to your computer in this manner could provoke a great deal of damage.

At the time being, only an Android version is available, but Bengali reassured the world that an iOS version is on its way.
