NASA And littleBits Create A Rover Building Set

Posted: 25 Apr 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Nasa littlebits

Whether you go to outer space or not depends sorely on you now, as littleBits and NASA provide you with the tools to build your own space explorer.

Ok, fine, going to space might be a stretch, but that doesn’t make this Space Kit created by littleBits and NASA any less impressive. This set has 12 modules, 10 STEAM activities, and five different plans designed by the NASA crew themselves that can be connected magnetically and made to perform different tasks. It’s a really clever way to bring space-like design to small scale module sets, and you can learn more about them by checking the video below these lines.

Wind Waker Link Now Turned Nendoroid Figure

Posted: 25 Apr 2014 06:00 AM PDT

The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker Link Nendoroid image 1

Let the winds guide you to see this awesome The Wind Waker’ Link action figure from Good Smile Company.

There's something about the look of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker that makes me smile. Smile, because of how darn pretty it looks – I mean, have you seen the Wii U version? It's a credit to the game's cell-shaded art style that has kept it looking so marvelous after all these years.

Now you can take a piece of that game and place it by your side to remind you of its smile-evoking positivity with this Nendoroid action figure of Link. Funny enough, it's from a company with the word "smile" in its name, Good Smile Company, a well-known distributor of figures with a superb amount of detail. I would say they’re one of the best.

This little guy comes with multiple poses and face expressions that can be changed on a whim. Wind Waker Link also comes with his familiar Hero's Sword, Hero's Shield, Heart Container, and the Wind Waker itself. Good Smile Company even included a neat, blue-wave thingy to represent Link's spinning sword attack. That’s probably the best pose.

Right now, The Wind Waker Link figure can be pre-ordered at Good Smile's online shop. It costs ¥4,000, about $39 USD, and will be released sometime this August. It would be awesome to have one of these on a work desk, brightening up a rough day.

OnePlus One Smartphone Proves Itself in New Video

Posted: 25 Apr 2014 05:00 AM PDT

OnePlus One

The new OnePlus One smartphone hopes to beat out all of its rivals and with impressive specs the handset could do just that.

Those are some bold claims aren't they? When your competitors have better brand recognition, more money to fling at marketing campaigns and months upon months of consumer interest you're always going to have a tough challenge ahead of you in establishing your high-end handset as "a flagship killer" and if you want to go throwing incendiary quotes like that around then you'd better have the hardware to prove it. Luckily, OnePlus are one such challenger, with their OnePlus One smartphone being both a mathematical pun and strong contender against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One (M8) and the iPhone 5S.

With a 5.5 inch full HD screen, it certainly has the visuals to be a standout rival. Meanwhile, under the OnePlus One's hood, its 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor isn't just as 'rival-worthy' but it's actively faster than that of the HTC One (M8)'s 2.3 GHz Snapdragon processor and paired with OnePlus One's 3GB of RAM in comparison with the other high-end phones on the market right now, it's miles above the rest. Speed specs aren't the only place in which the OnePlus One excels either as the phone also has a 13-megapixel camera on the rear (which is also boosted by a Sony Exmor sensor) and a 5-megapixel camera on its front meaning that photos will look beautiful no matter which camera you take them with.

The video of the phone (which you can see above) encourages potential buyers to "never settle". Presuming that OnePlus don't want consumers to settle for boring old matte black or 'easily dirtied' white cases, the OnePlus One also has several customisable options that see the phone decked in wood, bamboo, denim and, for extra safety, it can even be cased in Kevlar. Yet despite this, the biggest draw to the phone is its price. With the 16GB OnePlus One available for just $299 unlocked, the phone is both hundreds of dollars cheaper and far better in terms of capabilities than any other rival on the market – including frontrunners the HTC One (M8), the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone S5.

The OnePlus One smartphone will be available in the US, Canada, the UK, certain parts of Europe, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan during Q2 2014.

Opera Launches Coast Browser for Apple iPhone

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 01:30 PM PDT

Opera Coast for iPhone

iPhone users who have had enough of Safari, Chrome, Mercury, Dolphin, and Puffin, have a whole new alternative now in the form of Opera Coast, a mobile web browser that promises to take browser wars to a new level.

More than half a year after Opera launched the Coaster browser for iPad, the same revolutionary app makes its way to the iPhone. The iPad version was described as an “elegant, intuitive and refined” solution, and the iPhone one shouldn’t be any different.

Huib Kleinhout, Opera Coast project product manager, mentioned in a statement that “Like everyone who owns an iPhone, I’ve often picked it up when waiting for something or someone. I was never quite happy with how apps and browsers kind of got in the way of the content.”

In other words, Kleinhout sees other apps and browsers as an obstacle that prevents people from accessing the content easily. Obviously, in his eyes, Opera Coast represents the very solution to that problem. “The first true made-for-touch,” as the Norwegian developers from Opera called Coast, relies solely on gestures, thus eliminating the need for button-pressing and menu-tapping. Unlike other browsers that promise to innovate and actually fail to bring something new to the table, Opera Coast is indeed revolutionary, specifically because of this reason.

The UI of Opera Coast pretty much emulates the one of the iPhone itself, with three-by-three blocks. Right after launching the app, users get to see the icons for Gmail, YouTube, Reddit, BuzzFeed, Digg, IMDb, and Wikipedia, which in Opera’s opinion are some of the websites that most people access on a somehow daily basis.

When searching for websites that have mobile versions, Opera Coast offers the option of adding a thumbnail. If you’d rather look for an actor you like, Coast will display the Google search page without leaving the app. Kleinhout even explained that “With Opera Coast, we have made content the main star of the show, letting the browser app itself get out of the way when you just want to kill some time. It’s the way the Web was meant to be enjoyed.”

Overall, it’s great to take a breath of fresh air in the mobile Web browsers world, even if they are only meant for iOS users at the moment. Hopefully, Opera will decide to implement these for Android, as well.
