The Oculus Rift Launch Date Might Be Announced Tomorrow

Posted: 02 Dec 2015 10:57 AM PST

Oculus Rift Announcement

Virtual reality is the future, and the future is coming sooner than expected. The release date for the Oculus Rift might be announced tomorrow during The Video Game Awards 2015.

The Oculus Rift by Oculus VR is probably the highest profile gadget when it comes to virtual reality, the next big thing that will hit the entertainment industry. Although prepared for gaming, virtual reality already has entered the collective consciousness as a product that will revolutionize the way we watch movies, concerts or TV shows, and everyone is eagerly awaiting the moment the Oculus finally makes a public release as an official product anyone can walk into a store and buy. Turns out, the Oculus VR team implied this might happen sooner than later, as they recently announced that a very special announcement would be happening at the Game Awards 2015, which will take place tomorrow (December 3rd), and no one on the internet can imagine what this could be except an official announcement and release date.

As of now, the company has not announced any details or official dates for the Oculus Rift, or even a price point, but rumors and speculation have been going on for a while saying the boom of Virtual Reality will take place throughout 2016, with Samsung, PlayStation, THC, Valve and many others releasing their own devices. The Oculus Rift had been available for developers and enthusiasts, but the company sold out and now everyone is waiting for the official release. Still, if we speculate based on Palmer Luckey’s tweet below, the announcement might be happening really, really soon.

The first consumer version of the Oculus Rift VR headset had started production back in October, according to industry insiders, but no one can say for sure how many are being made, or even how big the demand for this will be at launch as this is a completely new technology. Surely we will hear all about it at tomorrow’s event. Other rumors speculate that the Oculus Rift headset will be priced $350 USD at least, or that it might come in the first quarter of 2016, which all seem plausible, but as of now it’s not certain at all.

At the pace the VR industry is going, if the Oculus VR team want to beat everyone to the punch, they need to announce the official date pretty soon, and what’s even more – start taking preorders. The market and consumers seem ready for everything to happen, the technology is already here, so all that is left is to be able to just walk into a store or go online to purchase our favorite headsets. We will let you know the details after the announcement happens at the Game Awards tomorrow, but we think it’s reasonable to get hyped.

Get Micro Drone 2.0+, The Upside-Down HD Camera Operator

Posted: 02 Dec 2015 10:44 AM PST

Micro Drone 2.0+ with HD Camera - Inverted Flight Edition

Drones carrying cameras often lack the flexibility that their human counterparts have when shooting videos. Micro Drone 2.0+, which is now available on Walyou Deals, can turn upside down and film in HD, for a completely unique way of immortalizing special moments.

The ability to fly inverted isn’t exactly new, as many drone manufacturers have played with this idea for a while. However, the problem with must drones flying inverted is that they don’t usually pack enough power to also carry a camera, so drone owners typically have to choose between doing fun tricks with their UAV, or getting one that can carry a camera, but can’t flip. Micro Drone 2.0+ with HD Camera: Inverted Flight Edition, as its name strong suggest, is equipped with a camera that’s capable of shooting videos in HD resolution, and can also turn upside down, for cool tricks and amazing effects.

A change of perspective is always welcomed in videos, and you don’t need to work on movie sets at Hollywood to achieve that. As a matter of fact, all you need is a small drone that can fly in an inverted position. Well, truth be told, not just any UAV, but the Micro Drone 2.0+ with HD Camera: Inverted Flight Edition, since this is the only micro HD-camera drone in the world capable of achieving this feat.

Developed by Extreme Toys Ltd., the Micro Drone 2.0+ employes a pre-programmed algorithm that enables it to perform 360-degree flips. More than flips, the drone can actually fly upside down, and all you need to do to see that is flip a switch. After deciding how to fly it, the drone uses self-righting algorithms and sensors to stabilize to its horizontal flying position.

The drone sports a USB rechargeable battery, and a full charge lasts 45 minutes, enabling it then to fly for up to 8 minutes. In terms of range, it is functional at up to 400 ft away. As for the camera, the module is capable of capturing both videos and photos in 720p at 30fps.

That resolution and frame rate are perfect for filming not only kids playing, but also scenery and landscapes while visiting a new country. Aerial photography can certainly give your vacation a different twist. After all, anyone can take photos and shoot videos at ground level, but filming yourself and the ones beside you from up above is definitely not everyone can do. Not to mention that by doing so, you no longer have to ask others to hold the camera!

The Micro Drone 2.0+ with HD camera can be purchased on Walyou Deals for $99.99 (42% off the MSRP of $175). You can lower that price even more by referring a friend, action that gets you a $10 discount. That’s a very reasonable price, considering the uniqueness of this drone and its inverted flight video shooting capabilities.

Starbreeze and 505 Games Bring Exclusive Point Break DLC to Payday 2

Point Break Heists DLC for PAYDAY 2 01

The makers of Payday 2 have announced a collaboration with Alcon Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures and Lionsgate, which resulted in an exclusive Point Break DLC for their game.

If it weren’t for the (many say unnecessary) 2015 remake of the 1991 movie Point Break, one could say that the developers of Payday 2 have a thing for Keanu Reeves, seeing as how they’ve also worked with Lionsgate on integrated John Wick in their game. Their collaboration went even further, as a John Wick VR game scheduled for a 2016 release is currently in the works. Back to the game at hand, though, it looks like the new DLCs will come just in time for the new movie, which will hit theaters on December 25.

“Point Break has always been a huge inspiration for the PAYDAY games, so to be able to integrate the film’s characters and storylines into PAYDAY 2 is a dream come true,” pointed out Bo Andersson-Klint, CEO of Starbreeze. “We previously worked closely with Lionsgate on the successful addition of their character John Wick as a member of the PAYDAY gang, so using that same business model, Lionsgate introduced us to Alcon and Warner Bros. to create two Point Break heists that we believe are some of the best to date.”

“In working with our partners at Starbreeze on the upcoming John Wick VR game, we realized that we had an opportunity to build on that success with Point Break while also embarking on an unprecedented collaboration with our colleagues at Alcon and Warner Bros.,” added Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures and Games Peter Levin. “As we continue to look for fun, exciting ways to integrate Lionsgate’s IP into the gaming space, we believe that having the creative teams and IP owners work together with game developers is the ideal way to create the best experience for avid fans."

“We look forward to an exciting collaboration with Starbreeze and 505 Games on this project, along with Lionsgate and Warner Bros.,” concluded Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Co-Founders and Co-CEO’s of Alcon Entertainment. “We believe this reimagining of Point Break lends itself to many platforms and gaming in particular as it will allow players to be a part of the action.

The Point Break DLC, available on December 3 and priced at $6.99, features two new heists titled Beneath the Mountain & Birth of Sky, as well as 10 new achievements that are equally distributed between the two heists. Additional goodies include a new pistol secondary weapon, four melee weapons, 6 new songs (2 all-new heist themes composed by Simon Viklund, and 4 menu themes from the actual score of the Point Break movie), a new contact (Locke) and 4 new masks.

On the other hand, the Bodhi Character Pack DLC features Bodhi as a new playable character, new sniper rifle primary weapon, a new melee weapon, new perk deck featuring 9 perks, and two new masks. It should be mentioned that this DLC will be offered for free.

If you don’t already own the game, head over to Amazon, where it’s available at very reasonable prices for various platforms.

Nokia’s $60K OZO VR Camera Can Be Pre-Ordered Now

Posted: 01 Dec 2015 12:51 PM PST

Nokia OZO Professional VR Camera 01

Ever since Microsoft bought Nokia’s handset division in 2013, the Finnish companies has turned its attention to other departments. OZO, Nokia’s $60 virtual reality camera, which was announced back in July, is available for pre-order to companies working in the media and entertainment industry.

Most VR products are targeted directly at consumers, or at least what the recent flood of virtual reality helmets and treadmills suggests. Nokia has decided to take a different route, though, and created a professional VR camera, named OZO, that focuses on the most important part of this industry: the virtual reality content, without which all the helmets and accessories would be useless. This industry has just taken off, and its future looks more than promising, so companies who can afford investing in such equipment shouldn’t think twice before doing it.

“We’re thrilled to introduce OZO to the content creation world, and to define a completely new category of virtual reality capture and playback solutions,” explained Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies, back in July, when the company first announced the Ozo VR camera. “OZO aims to advance the next wave of innovation in VR by putting powerful tools in the hands of professionals who will create amazing experiences for people around the world. We expect that virtual reality experiences will soon radically enhance the way people communicate and connect to stories, entertainment, world events and each other. With OZO, we plan to be at the heart of this new world.”

“We’re at the dawn of an exciting new medium that will transform the way people connect to stories, events, and the world around them,” added Haidamus today, when the company has announced that it’s taking pre-orders for the product.. “OZO is a powerful tool designed for the professional creators who will answer the most exciting and intriguing questions about the possibilities for virtual reality.”

“Our mission has always been to provide filmmakers with tools and techniques that fuel their creative process, unlocking the true potential of their vision.” pointed out Cliff Plumer, President of Jaunt Studios. “Our partnership with Nokia is another big step for us to continue to provide our partners with the most cutting-edge technology to further cater to their creative needs. Jaunt will continue to work with its own line of cameras, as well as the best-of-breed that others have to offer, to ensure content creators have access to the best tool for the job.”

OZO is capable of recording 360 x 180-degree spherical video using eight 2K x 2K image sensors at 30 fps, along with 360 x 260 surround sound. It functions wirelessly, and can store both audio and video to a single file that’s stored on a 500GB SSD.

In case you own or work for a media or entertainment company who could use a professional VR camera, head over to OZO.nokia.com and pre-order the camera itself, along with the OZO digital cartridge (priced at $5,000) and the docking station (costing $1,500). Needless to say, such prices aren’t for everyone, but the return on investment should be immense on such innovative product, as VR content will sell like virtual pancakes in the near future.
