HTC M8 To Be Launched on March 25 in a Metal Outfit

HTC M8 Metal Body

The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer encouraged people to save March 25 in their calendars with the promise that “The best will get better,” a sign that its next flagship might be launched on that day.

While HTC M8 has an aluminum unibody similar to the one sported by HTC One, this year’s iteration will be available in three colors: Silver, Grey and Gold. The All New One and its predecessor look very much alike, so HTC adopted a strategy that helps people differentiate the flagships, much like Apple did last year with its Space Gray, Silver, and Gold iPhone 5s that otherwise are very similar to iPhone 5.

Regarding the launch date, it was HTC UK who announced it on Twitter. If anything, this hints at a launch in London, but sources claim that the company will also launch the product in New York, on the same day.

The technical specs of HTC M8 have been rumored by a lot of sites in the past few weeks. The flagship is said to come with a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.3Ghz, 2GB of RAM, and HTC BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers. The back features the most dramatic change from its predecessor: dual UltraPixel rear cameras with dual LED True Tone Flash. All that is topped with a 5 MP front camera for selfies and video calls. I wonder if the dual cameras will be used for shooting 3D photos and videos.

HTC One 2014 is said to come with a 2,900 mAh battery, according to the most recent reports. Obviously, HTC hasn’t confirmed any of these specs, so we’ll have to wait to see if they’re true or not.

The fact that the Taiwanese tech company announced a launch date for its next flagship doesn’t mean the world won’t be able to see it at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, next week. On the contrary, HTC will most probably showcase it there, thus building people’s desire until March 25.

HTC’s new flagship will probably be criticized for the pixel density that will be lower than the competition’s high-end smartphones, which will most probably sport qHD displays. Still, the build quality, the dual cameras and the HTC Sense 6 UI might make it a winner.

Forget About Westeros: Game of Thones’ The Wall Exists In 3D In London

Game of Thrones The Wall 3d 1

The 3rd season of Game of Thrones has just been released in DVD and Blu-Ray, and in order to promote it, this piece was commissioned for London.

Game of Thrones The Wall 3d 1

What we see here is The Wall, the ice barrier guarded by the Night’s Watch in Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and Fire that defends the land from the White Walkers. This is depicting one of the key scenes from Season 3, that is, the moment that some wildlings and the bastard Jon Snow scale it to cross over to Westeros.

Game of Thrones The Wall 3d 2

The responsible for this piece is Joe Hill, founder of 3D Joe and Max, and he mentioned being extremely excited about this commission. Well, it shows, so fantastic work!

PlayStation 4 Has Already Sold More Than 5.3 Million Units

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 05:00 AM PST

Ps4

According to Sony, the PS4 has sold over 5.3 million units as of February 8, and that’s even before sale of the console has begun in Japan.

Andrew House, President and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, stated that I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season.

Ps4

According to data from NPD Group, the PS4 was the top-selling console in the United States last month, with Sony also stating that they have sold almost double when compared with the nearest next-gen competitor which just happens to be Microsoft’s Xbox One. Microsoft hasn’t revealed new sales figures since the end of 2013, when they claimed more than 3 million units were sold.

Next month is going to be big for both consoles, as the first-person shooter Titanfall for Xbox One and action game inFamous: Second Son for PS4 come out, with other high profile video games launching as well.

Twitter Profiles Get a Facelift, Look More Like Facebook

Twitter Profile Redesign

Social networks resemble even more one another, now that Twitter went for a visual overhaul of its profile pages.

Ever thought that Twitter profiles would look better if they had a cover photo, much like Facebook profiles do? Well, the wait is over, as the new visual profiles include so many big images that it may become difficult to tell them apart. It has been a while since Twitter profiles were redesigned in such a radical way, and it’s good that this social network took this measure now, in order to improve the experience of its users. It should be noted that Twitter also redesigned the Homepage of each profile back in January, so this current step was really necessary for completing the overhaul.

The redesigned Twitter profiles appear only in the desktop version, and that only in several countries. Users of the mobile app, as well as the ones from other countries than the ones selected for the test, will have to wait a while. Still, such features are rolled-out rather quickly in general, so you shouldn’t worry.

The current design features header photos measuring 1252 x 626 pixels, while in the test version, the recommended size is 1500 x 1500. Tweets including links to pages that have images will now include big thumbnails, so from this point of view, the resemblance to Facebook’s News Feed is even more shocking.

The content, the thing without which Twitter wouldn’t exist, will be available in tabs that make navigation a lot easier. On top of that, the new Twitter profiles will also feature Facebook- and Pinterest-style cards. I think that such changes could make relevant content more obvious. After all, it’s easy to miss a tweet when you are following hundreds, if not thousands of other users, and bigger images could help us a lot with figuring out which tweets are more important for us. Personally, I think the new design is a major step forward for Twitter, as it’s less difficult for us now to focus on the things that truly matter.

In case Twitter wanted its new profile pages to look specifically like the ones of Facebook, I guess this must be payback for the Trending Topics that the latter plans to implement. However, if a thing is done right, there’s nothing wrong if it serves as inspiration for others.

Everyone Wants The Dash

The wearables market is full of watches and glasses that either do one thing perfectly, or a plethora of things imperfectly.  Dash smart headphones change that.

The Dash Wireless Smart Headphones Kickstarter project went live February 9th and has already decimated its funding goal of $260,000 and stretch goal of $666,667.  At the time of this writing, Dash has raised over $1,737,480 only 8 days into its 50 funding period, which puts it well on its way to being one of the most successful Kickstarter projects ever.

What's so popular about The Dash?  Well, it basically promises everything.  The Dash is a pair of wireless Bluetooth earbuds that contain motion tracking technology and a heart rate monitor for fitness tracking, noise cancellation and transparency mode so you can hear when you want and not when you don't.

Right off the bat, the The Dash has one of the key features of a successful wearable.  It doesn't get in the way when you wear it.

Although the wireless earbuds do sit in your ears, they can easily be switched into a "transparent" mode similar to what Bose and some other systems have done with their earbuds.  The Kickstarter FAQ says the device will not function as a hearing aid, but I imagine that feature (along with several others) can be expected from future iterations of a product such as this.

Much of the audio pickup is done through the vibrations picked up through bone conduction technology in lieu of traditional microphones, which means wind and ambient noise will be a nearly non-factor when using the headset to make calls.  The audio quality also benefits dramatically from the natural reverberations made possible by a snug fit using their 94% ergonomic model (meaning 6% may not have a perfect in-ear fit).

The Dash packs so much into such a small space that the biggest area of concern is battery life.  The Kickstarter page promises a 3 hour battery life when running all functions.  This may be long enough for a single workout, but it renders The Dash ineffective for use as a 24/7 fitness tracker as you can get from something like a Fitbit Flex or Jawbone Up.

Provided all developments go well (with the way their funding came through, I sure hope there's no issues), early backers will begin getting their Dashes at the end of 2014, with the product opening to other customers Q1 2015.
