Ultra-Soft Daybed Uses Textures + Touch to Entice Nappers Posted: 13 Mar 2014 08:00 AM PDT Whether we realize it or not, most of us are on a life-long quest to find the most comfortable napping spot ever. German designer Stefanie Schissler may have created the perfect napping furniture of all time with her Kulle daybed. Schissler set out to create a piece of furniture that would inspire an emotional connection with its user. The daybed speaks to our curiosity about surfaces and textures with its soft, fuzzy, bumpy surface. According to the designer, touching the surface is the first step toward an emotional connection with the furniture. Exploring its inviting shapes and soothing curves entices the viewer to make a deeper connection by cuddling up on the ultra-soft bed. Simply looking at the bed is enough to create a sense of comfort. Its neutral color scheme evokes a calm feeling and its egg carton-like surface just beg you to lie down and cuddle up with a soft blanket for a truly dreamy sleep. |
Watch Your Nose: Wristwatch Emits Aromas to Tell Time Posted: 12 Mar 2014 06:00 PM PDT If you find yourself too focused on the time throughout the day, perhaps a more free-form style of time telling can help you relax. The Scent Rhythm watch was made by hardware designer Aisen Caro Chacin as a way of harnessing and reinforcing our natural circadian rhythms. The watch has no face and no numbers; rather, it gives an approximation of time. Every six hours, one of four aromas is released. Each is designed to both indicate the approximate time of day and stimulate certain chemicals in the brain. In the morning, the scent of espresso wakes you up and gets you ready to face the day. During the working hours, the work or school-related aromas of books and tarnished silver help you focus. The evening hours, when you are unwinding from the day, are marked with the calming (depending on who you are) scents of whiskey and tobacco. At bedtime, the calming smell of chamomile sends you off to sleep and helps your brain rest up for the following day. Although the watch won’t help you keep any appointments, it does help your body adapt to your personal schedule. By releasing these aromas – and stimulating the corresponding brain chemicals – at pre-determined times throughout the day, your body becomes used to your personal schedule. Your internal clock remembers the rhythm of the scents and synchronizes your brain and your body to your daily routine, making it easier to transition between the stages of your day. ... |
Two-Piece Kitchen Gadget is Perfect for Home Pizza Masters Posted: 12 Mar 2014 02:00 PM PDT Even if you don’t particularly like cooking, there is something fun and satisfying about making your own pizza. The Roll & Mix from designer Marcial Ahsayane makes the process even more fun by putting three of the most common pizza-making tools together. The Roll & Mix consists of two parts that screw together to form a rolling pin. One of the parts is an oil bottle that holds the olive oil used to make the crust. The other half is a pestle, used for grinding herbs and kneading dough. When separated, the two pieces look like two modern white bottles of the type that you might see adorning a shelf as decoration. The two halves come together as a rolling pin to roll out the dough after it has been prepared. The joint between the two halves is made of threaded metal for strength and ease of use. ... |
