Footstool With Built-In Blanket is Always Ready for a Nap Posted: 20 Mar 2014 08:00 AM PDT In our eyes, any furniture that can combine two objects to make a graceful, space-saving piece of furniture is a winner. The Collerette from design studio Les M gets extra points for looking so deliciously comfortable that we want to curl up on it immediately. The three-legged Collerette comes in two sizes: chair and footstool. Its rolled-up “collar” is actually an attached, curled-up blanket. Sit on a chair with your feet propped on the Collerette, pull the plush blanket up over you, and settle in for a cozy nap. When you aren’t using the blanket, its rolled-up position adds a curious bit of whimsy to the design. Since it isn’t immediately recognizable as a blanket, this rolled-up section appears to be a fun rolled edge around the Collerette. The rolled-up blanket provides a nice soft back- and arm-rest as well, making the piece useful (not to mention lovely) even when it doesn’t happen to be nap time. |
Lightweight Floating Wall Storage Shelves Look Like Stone Posted: 19 Mar 2014 02:00 PM PDT Cork is such a versatile material that it can be used in a surprising number of applications. The Magic Boxes Shelving from Rui Pereira is a set of wall shelves made of stylish cork that are more than they first appear. At first glance, the floating cork shelves look a bit like stones on the wall. Get a bit closer, however, and the softer, spongy texture of the cork becomes visible. Each shelf opens to reveal a small storage space inside. The unique material makes the small storage containers look like natural features that belong on a cave wall. In the home, they look like sophisticated pieces of interactive, functional art. |
