Mega Man Hoodie Is Awesome And Incredibly Expensive

Posted: 18 Mar 2014 07:00 AM PDT

Mega Man Hoodie 1

Few things ever hit us in the nostalgia glands as hard as Mega Man does, and although this is the greatest hoodie we’ve ever seen, do you think it’s worth $200 USD?

The  Volante Design team have teamed up with Mega Man owners, Capcom, to produce what might be the greatest hoodie ever created, themed after Mega Man himself, and with versions for both guys and gals.

There is one catch, though, these won’t be produced at all unless they get a minimum of 100 pre-orders for the lady version, and 200 for the guys. And doing this pre-order would set you back 195.95 cents. Ouch.

If the “MegaJacket" manages to achieve the number of pre-orders (and don’t get us wrong, it might, because it’s incredible), it’ll be coming out for sale on July 23rd, 2014. Are you getting one?

Superman-First-Comic-Action-Comics-No-1

There are quite a few classic and memorable comic book covers that stand out for their artistic brilliance or for their significance. However, giving them an animated, somewhat hypnotizing treatment makes them even better.

The Gif format isn’t for everyone, but it seems that giving some motion to these still drawings brings them back into life, and for some, while also creating a slight headache if you focus on them too long, it’s also the fear factor they manage to send through the movement, especially the Joker ones.

Google Improve Play Games Service to Help Players, Developers

Posted: 18 Mar 2014 05:00 AM PDT

Google Play Games image

Fed up of losing out on iOS exclusive apps, Google have now announced new features for Play Games to encourage more titles to be developed for Android.

It's possibly one of the most frustrating things that Google has to deal with on a day to day basis. They have the biggest search engine in the world, are a driving force in the tech industry and just recently, their open source software, Android, successfully surpassed the '1 billion devices' milestone, a huge achievement for any company, even one that's as big as Google. Yet, despite their clear weight in the mobile sector, Google just can't seem to shake off the inarguable weight that the Apple brand name carries, with many mobile app developers choosing to bring their games to iOS before they bring them to Android, often seeing those who use devices that run the latter miss out on some great games. However, with new features being added to their Play Games service, Google are set to change that.

The decision to announce the new Play Games features comes right before Google's presentation at GDC (Game Developers Conference) in San Francisco, an East Coast gathering of tech companies, developers and the media from all over the world to both encourage new companies to work with them, show off their wares and cover all of the big news (respectively), in which the search giant are reportedly set to make a huge play for developer interested. In other words, Google want those devs to work with them and they're showing it in a big way.

Amongst the pre-GDC updates to Play Games, is something called 'Game Gifts' a brand new feature that is thought to make Android games a more social experience, allowing players to gift their friends with items and bonuses. This can be done by searching for a profile or by finding a friend's Google Plus account and so it will provide a valuable bump to the numbers of Google's social media service as well as one for their bottom line. Too, a more social gaming experience is also being supported by the 'rough version' of the Play Games C++ SDK (technological information to help developers make games for Android) that is said to include support for achievements and leaderboards, again showing that Google want to rival what their competitors, Apple, whose iOS includes something similar, are offering. Not only this, but Google are also now including Google Analytics support in their AdMob interface, allowing developers to both earn money from their Android apps and better understand how that money is being made, in a move that will further support the huge statement by Google that Play Games is the “fastest-growing mobile gaming network in history.”

We'll keep you posted once we know more.

Twitter’s Fave People Timeline Helps Us Track Only the Best Accounts

Posted: 17 Mar 2014 01:50 PM PDT

Twitter Android Fave People Timeline

The social network enabled a few lucky testers of its Android app to filter the tweets they’re receiving by selecting their favorite accounts using the Fave People tab.

Flipboard is one of my favorite apps in the world, both on Android and Windows 8.1, even though the latter is a bit more difficult to use on non-touchscreen displays. This being news about Twitter, my first statement might not make much sense, especially if you haven’t used Flipboard. What that magazine-style app enables you to do is add social media accounts and browse through them as if they were publications. In Twitter’s case, it even enables you to mute certain accounts, so you can focus only on the ones that matter. Do you see where I’m getting with this? Twitter has finally decided to implement in its Android app something that is extremely useful, a feature that lets you “hear” only the tweets from your favorite accounts, while silencing the rest.

That’s not to say that not everyone’s voice matters, but let’s face it, every one of us treats some of the people he interacts with or likes preferentially. In this context, it’s better to define the Fave People (as the feature itself is called), in order to make sure that you don’t miss any of their tweets. When you are following hundreds or even thousands of Twitter accounts, a feature such as Fave People could prove to be vital.

Twitter’s new feature, which will most likely go public in the not-so-distant future, was created with one goal in mind, and that is to make the tweeting experience a lot more customizable than it already is.

In terms of design and placement, the “Fave People” is right between “Home” and “Discover,” which means that at least for the moment, it plays a great role. The feature even comes with an explanatory note that shows up when tapping on the section for the first time:

“Keep track of your favorites

Tap the star icon on the profiles of your favorite people to see their Tweets in this timeline. You can also chose to receive notifications when they tweet from Settings.”

All in all, I’m glad to see that such features that enable us to tidy up our social lives get implemented in a social media app, and I wish more social networks followed Twitter’s example.

iPhone 6 May Feature Temperature, Humidity and Pressure Sensors

Posted: 17 Mar 2014 01:15 PM PDT

iPhone 6 Barometer

iPhone 5 has had its time in the spotlight, so now iPhone 6 rumors should start gaining momentum. The latest suggest that Apple’s next smartphone may turn the device into a hygrometer, barometer and thermometer.

The idea of integrating these sensors into a smartphone is anything but new. Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S4 already had pressure and temperature sensors, so all that Apple did was to get inspired by the South Korean company. As a paradox, Apple might sue Samsung at a later point, claiming that they stole the idea from an iPhone launched in the future. Even the iPhone 5S was meant to come with more and better sensors than it was released with, but I guess that in Apple’s case, it’s better late than never.

Sun Chang Xu, news chief analyst at ESM-China, claims that sources close to the matter confirmed that Apple is looking to implement such technologies in its next flagship. In case there is any confusion, I should tell you that the pressure sensor does not refer to blood pressure (which would be really hard, if not impossible to determine using a smartphone), but to atmospheric pressure.

Apple’s great array of sensors makes a lot of sense in the context of iOS 8, which is said to bring support for them. The next mobile operating system developed by the Cupertino company will actually bring the Quantified Self closer to reality. Obviously, that has a greater meaning for the company’s iWatch, which should be able to measure a lot of parameters, including blood pressure, hydration, heart rate, calories burned, glucose levels and so on.

In the great scheme of things, the sensors and features that the iWatch should carry (given that a team of tech medical experts has been co-opted to help develop it) make the iPhone 6′s sensors not that spectacular, yet realistic.

It would be interesting to see whether Apple fans have missed such features in their smartphones, and so, if they could find various applications for these sensors. In time, I’m sure that there will be plenty of apps developed that will make use of the temperature, pressure and humidity sensors integrated in the iPhone 6. Aside from that, we’re looking forward to see what other rumors related to Apple’s flagship will surface in the future.
