Osmo Gaming System for iPad

Posted: 18 Jan 2016 04:42 AM PST

Osmo Gaming System for iPad1

Osmo is an award-winning game system that was designed for children between five and thirteen years that encourages the creative thinking as well as social interaction since it can be played by the entire family.

You simply slide the iPad onto the Osmo base and put the mirror on the camera after which the rest of the table will become your playing field. The red reflector allows the iPad to read the environment on the table and the Reflective AI technology will translate your actions and movements in real life onto the iPad.

The Osmo comes with five games: Numbers, Tangram, Words, Newton and Masterpiece. In the first one you have to count and multiply the tiles to match the numbers found on the bubbles and you can thus become a master of the numbers. The second game is Tangram where you arrange several puzzle pieces to fit the image on the screen.

Words is to guess and spell images on the screen and you can improve it with additional content such as geography or trivia to make it more challenging. Newton can be played with any object or image and you have to place that item in front of the screen after which you manipulate it to guide falling balls into their target areas.

Masterpiece is the final game and here you can choose any photo, image or painting and the program will transform it into easy to follow lines that will allow you to better reproduce it. Since three of the games can use almost any item or download many of them online, the only two that require physical pieces are Words and Tangram, so you get everything you need for them in the box.

The five games are only the beginning, with new levels being developed constantly, and once new ones are available you will be able to download them from the Osmo website, so the possibilities are quite endless and this is a way to have fun while learning something new or practicing the skills you will need in school.

Another great thing about the Osmo is its mobility since you can easily transport it to your friends' house or even in places where there is no Wi-Fi connection. The games were designed with children of ages five and up in mind, but once you get to the higher levels you might find it a challenge even as an adult, so you might be surprised to find yourself spending as much time on the Osmo as your children.

The Osmo Gaming System is compatible with iPad 2, 3, 4, Mini, Mini Retina and iPad Air and it was already adopted into many schools in 42 countries throughout the globe due to the interactive way in which it teaches children new things while allowing them to play. The innovative system received great reviews and Time Magazine even named it one of the top inventions of 2014.

The Osmo Gaming System comes in two versions: the Starter Kit, which comes with the four basic games (without Numbers), and the Genius Kit which comes with the five games as well as the two sets of number tiles and dots tiles needed for Numbers. These tiles are optional and you can still download the Numbers game with the Starter Kit. The Starter Kit costs $79 while the Genius Kit is $99.

Microsoft’s Word Flow Is Coming to iOS and Android

Posted: 17 Jan 2016 02:25 PM PST

Microsoft Word Flow Keyboard 01

Word Flow is making its way to other platforms, as Microsoft has started working on an iPhone version of its Swype-like keyboard for Windows Phone.

Microsoft has been known to support compatibility of many of its hardware and software products with more than its own platform. This really sets the Redmond company apart from many of its competitors, who often decide to lock down their product. After bringing Cortana to both Android and iOS and making its Universal Mobile Keyboard compatible to these platforms, Microsoft is now looking to speed things up in the texting department for the users of its competitor operating systems. In the very near future, the Word Flow keyboard will be made available for iOS, and soon after that, Android users will be able to use it as well.

Below is the content of the e-mail Microsoft has sent to beta testers registered in the Windows Insiders program:

“Hello,

Do you own an iPhone (5S or newer)? Do you think your native iOS keyboard could use improvement?

Word Flow keyboard has long been one of the highly praised features on Windows Phone and was used to break the Guinness World Record for fastest texting. We are now working on extending this keyboard to other platforms, starting with iOS.

Before publicly releasing this keyboard to the App Store, we’d love to give Insiders like you a preview. With your feedback, we’ll build a roadmap of improvements to the keyboard over time.

If you’re interested in participating in this beta program, just send an email to wordflow@microsoft.com with subject line “I want in!” and we’ll be in touch!

The Windows Insider and Word Flow teams”

If you are a Windows Insider and own an iPhone 5S or newer, you might want to give Word Flow a try. Microsoft seems to be aware of its smaller app ecosystem, and has probably decided to show, on one hand, that what few apps Windows Phone has are excellently built, and on the other hand, that it can improve on what others haven’t perfected, yet.

Handing over some of Windows 10 Mobile’s unique features has caused anger and frustration in some of Microsoft’s users. While they agree with sharing Cortana and the Office suite, they don’t really see why Word Flow should be shared, as well. After all, these are some of the essential aspects that make Windows 10 Phone unique. More than that, some are taking such announcements as clear signs that Microsoft has given up on Windows 10 Mobile. Such reactions are a bit exaggerated, as people don’t seem to know how these apps work. Cortana gets better the more people use it, and predictive keyboards such as Word Flow are not that far behind. One good point some users made is that Microsoft would bring Word Flow to other platforms, rather than adding more languages, which really doesn’t seem fair.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Best Selling Game of 2015

Posted: 17 Jan 2016 11:54 AM PST

Call of Duty Black Ops III

The numbers are in, and they’re not very surprising: Call of Duty: Black Ops III, is the best selling video game in 2015 across all platforms.

The Activision first person shooter series, now into its 12th installment, keeps on shattering records. the franchise has sold over 250 million copies thanks to its latest release, which came out in November 6 on the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and XBox One.

The title made more than $550 million only three days after its initial release according to Activision, who celebrated the achievement on a blog post. Overall video game sales last year, more and more focusing on Xbox One and PS4 titles, made $13.1 billion, pretty similar to 2014 numbers.

In Black Ops III, the player is taken to the future, specifically 2065, 40 years after the events of Black Ops II. Climate change has spawned fierce competition over scarce resources. Highly effective anti-aircraft systems mean fighting takes place on the ground, often in covert or “black” operations. The campaign in Black Ops III is designed to support 4-player cooperative gameplay, allowing for bigger, more open level design and less corridor shooting. The multiplayer introduced a new momentum-based movement system, which utilizes thruster packs to allow players to perform slow boosts into the air, as well as perform wall running and sliding, all the while giving players complete gun control.

Besides Black Ops III, the top 5 in sales is made out of Madden NFL 16 (EA Sports), Fallout 4 (Bethesda), Star Wars Battlefront (Electronic Arts) and GTA V (Rockstar), mostly thanks to its late release on the PC. The console version was released back in 2013 for the older generation and 2014 for the latest generation of consoles.
